The Goodyear House

Loved our dinner here, its been a very long time since we last visited. So this felt all new. The drinks and food was delicious. I got their take on the Cosmo, it was delicious. Sweet, but i like it that way. We got the bread for the table, and it was amazing. So soft and pillowy, and the spread that came with it, buttery and sweet. Yumm. For main course i tried the S&P fried flounder. It was crisp outside, not falling apart like some fried food does. it was seasoned well, on a bed of rice and beans. No leftovers! We sat inside in a dining room, with a view of the outdoors. The string lights and a beautiful mood to the vibe of the place.

The food was good, but I specifically want to highlight the drinks. They were consistently well balanced and clearly made with care. I’ve been to plenty of places recently that advertise “house made” syrups or mixers, only for the drinks to taste like something I could buy from food lion or are watered down. That wasn’t the case here. Every drink I ordered had a consistent amount of alcohol and quality ingredients. Definitely a standout.

This was my third visit to The Goodyear House and unfortunately it will be my last. I really wanted to like this restaurant given its location in a neighborhood that means a lot to me, but three visits have delivered three disappointing experiences. Our first two visits were overshadowed by extremely poor service and limited menu availability due to multiple items being sold out. I decided to give it one final chance, and it turned out to be the most frustrating visit yet. The evening started with a 45 minute wait just to receive a cocktail. We joked about leaving and simply paying for the sparkling water, but decided to stay. That proved to be the wrong decision. The salad course took over an hour to arrive, which set the tone for the rest of the meal. When the main courses finally came out, the steak was heavily charred and tasted burnt, yet somehow still managed to be lukewarm to slightly cold around the edges. It is honestly an impressive culinary mistake. Dessert appeared to be scooped straight from a large bulk container and was so unappealing that I did not even bother taking a photo. I genuinely wanted this place to succeed and become a regular spot for us, but after three poor experiences, I cannot justify returning. Three strikes and you are out.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a wonderful New Year’s Eve experience at Goodyear House and truly enjoyed their prix fixe menu. The service was attentive and welcoming throughout the evening. For the first course, we had the marinated shrimp and the Goodyear salad. The shrimp was coated in chili oil and paired nicely with the cracker, while the salad was fresh and well balanced. For the second course, we chose the crispy rice balls with golden rice, country ham, romesco, and Parmesan, which had a great crispy texture. We also had the lobster fra diavolo, which was a standout dish. The lobster was flavorful and served in a spicy red marinara sauce, and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. Our third course included the scallops à la plancha with turnips and greens. The scallops were cooked beautifully and paired well with the vegetables. We also had the pastured beef steak cooked medium with creamed collards and beef au jus. The steak was tender and full of flavor, and the creamed collards complemented it perfectly. For the table, we shared the garlic Parmesan shaken frites with truffle mayo, which were crispy, cheesy, and elevated by the truffle flavor. Dessert was a brownie sundae topped with brown butter caramel and waffle cone crumble, which was rich and delicious. Overall, this was a great $75 value for a thoughtfully prepared meal. Our favorite dishes were the lobster pasta and the steak. We’ll definitely be back for another New Year’s Eve dinner.

Lets start with the staff. All super friendly. I will say our waitress kept saying sorry about things that it did not apply to. Heard her say it at tables near us also. Espresso Martini. They were underwhelming to say the least. I guess im a snob for real espresso not in my espresso martini . The holiday version we also tried was ehh. We ordered a whiskey sour and got a margarita 🤷‍♂️. The bag of fries was awesome! 🍟 The side salad was good also.🥗 The bucanti carbonara was great, although lacking in the guancile. The grilled bavette was good. The meat lacked flavor,sauce on it was good. Although I will say I think its overpriced, espically not coming with potatoes, veggies or something to pair it with. We saw the half chicken get delivered next to us and had big regret not getting it. The ice cream brownie dessert was not great. Don't waste the $$
