Mule Barn Tavern Restaurant - Highlands

This place is a must for all Sandy Hook visitors. The drinks were cold and the food was delicious. Staff was super friendly. Clean, chill vibes, nice break from the sun and heat of the beach. The pretzel app is gigantic and the tuna nachos were incredible.

I highly recommend making a reservation. This place was hopping on Mother's Day and it wasn't even summer. Outdoor seating is not all covered (hoping it is during hotter summer months). Food options are good portions and tasty. I love the decor and how they did their best to keep the bones of the original structure. Excellent staff. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and food. It was a good experience. Then we took a hike to the observation deck afterwards. Jersey Shore Beach Lovers will love this spot too.

Your typical bar, restaurant, pub. Great place for a beer and a burger but they have a great selection for dinner including specials. They have a decent cocktail and dessert menu too. The environment is rustic and cozy, perfect for a casual Friday night. Can’t beat the views off of Sandy Hook so that automatically just adds to the atmosphere!! Definitely will go back with some friends on the weekend!

The Mule Barn 4.5 overall rating for the food, ambiance and location. I wish Google reviews had a half star system. Located in the back of Sandy Hook among the Fort Hancock buildings and houses, which is beautiful. The food was great, but this was our first time at the Mule Barn. We had the tuna tacos and turkey burger and fries. The tuna tacos were excellent and the turkey burger was as good as a turkey burger can be. Food and drink prices are reasonable and the view is awesome. After leaving we walked and drove around the area and saw a lot of deer and even some seals on the beach. If you want a good day trip for lunch in the Highlands you need to try the Mule Barn, you won't be disappointed.

Visiting Sandy Hook on a family day trip, and absolutely need to come back to this restaurant! The staff is friendly, informative, and awesome! The food? Absolutely incredible! I had the lobster Mac and cheese and I practically inhaled it!! Teriana, our server, was so sweet and made sure we were well taken care of!!! We adored her !! Thank you so much for a great first experience at Mule Barn Tavern!!
