Restaurant Calla

Great food! Inside was a bit loud so opted for the outside area. Was great for dinner date only a bit delayed in getting service as opposed to being inside imo. I got the prime rib, date got the pasta with hangar steak. Hanger steak was great. Good wine and drinks. The restaurant was busy so I don’t think it’s fair to say service was underwhelming. If you want a more slow paced intimate date night, the outside patio is a great option. Either way the experience was great, would recommend!

Wifey and i was celebrating her birthday and our anniversary. Glad to have found this place. Food was excellent. Atmosphere was great. And Grace, our server, was exemplary!!! Will definitely be coming back and try the quail next!!! Oh, please bring back the lamb chops!!!

Calla has remained one of the very few restaurants in Lake Charles that consistently delivers at an exceptionally high level—and that consistency is what truly sets it apart. The food is not just good; it’s thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and full of flavor in a way that clearly reflects a kitchen that cares about every detail. Every visit feels like the menu has something fresh and interesting, whether it’s a new addition or a refined take on a favorite, and that kind of evolution keeps it exciting. And the drinks deserve just as much praise. The cocktail program at Calla is easily the best in the area—creative, balanced, and executed with precision. You can tell there’s real intention behind each drink, not just in how it tastes but in how it’s crafted and presented. It’s rare to find a place that takes both its food and beverage program this seriously, and Calla absolutely nails both. Honestly, I can’t think of another place in Lake Charles that matches this level of quality across the board—where the food and drinks are equally strong, every single time. Please keep up these incredibly high standards. Don’t let anything slip, don’t settle, and keep pushing to be the best—because it shows. People notice. It makes a difference. And it’s exactly why so many of us keep coming back and will continue to support what you’re doing.

(Ordered on DoorDash) I know the photo on the menu is edited but…this is what I got. I’m a little disappointed. I have common sense so obviously I didn’t expect it to be perfectly arranged in the box, however, they forgot my salmon and I feel like my food was prepared apathetically solely bc it was a to-go order. The dish wasn’t cheap so thankfully my boyfriend went and got the salmon for me and said the servers were very kind and helpful! Mistakes happen and people deserve grace. It was probably very busy or they could’ve been short staffed. The food itself wasn’t my favorite but that’s ok. I don’t want to bash the restaurant, Just wanted to share my experience!

We had a 7:00 PM reservation on a Friday night and arrived early at 5:56 PM, at which point we were promptly seated. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the evening. It took approximately 18 minutes before our server came to the table. We ordered one Old Fashioned for me and a cocktail for my wife. Thirteen minutes later, the drinks arrived. My Old Fashioned was good (as it usually is), but my wife’s drink was essentially straight alcohol and undrinkable. After waiting another 11 minutes for our server to return, we requested a replacement for her drink and ordered another Old Fashioned for me. Thirteen minutes later, the replacement arrived — unfortunately, it was extremely tart and still not good. We had also ordered the charcuterie board, which never arrived. After 1 hour and 8 minutes total at the table, with no food and only drinks, we informed the server that we were finished and asked that a manager be summoned. The server returned and told us the manager was “busy” and that the drinks would be “on the house.” No apology from management, no visit to the table, and no explanation. We left and went to Embers, where we had an excellent experience — drinks, food, attentive service, and our meal served within 22 minutes. For a restaurant with Calla’s reputation and pricing, this experience was deeply disappointing. I have added photos of our empty table at Calla (with only drinks) and the exceptional food and service we received immediately afterward at Embers. I would genuinely like ownership or management to respond. I am more than willing to return for a drink and discuss this experience, but this visit fell far short of expectations.
