Azalea Park Dog Park

I am handicapped. I walk with 2 canes. All I want to do is let my dog play. Azalea dog park is awesome. I have met some friends that are part of the community. Good people. A gate has ended that. As a new resident of the Charlottesville area I would sometimes go twice a day. But by having a key lock facing towards the dog park and no one having a key? What’s being locked?, A garden getting ready to endure winter? You are denying the rights of handicapped individuals. Let’s think about it. Where is handicapped parking? We’ll it’s far away from that tiny circle. Now I am excepted to make the walk,to the the locked gate, and then walk on gravel? 2 canes and my dog.on grave from handicapped parking ? I give myself 20 feet tops before I will fall. Think about someone in a wheelchair with a service dog? Make sense? Simple solution. Open the gate. Pour some concrete right next to the park. Just 2 spots, handicapped only. Simple solution to me.

The dog park can be muddy or can be grassy depending on the time of the year. Either case there are plenty of nice people!

Two Fenced areas for dogs to run around and play, owners were super nice and we had no problems bringing our pup here. They have water fountains and poop bags as well as water bowls in the fenced area. Grass was a little long and could use a bit more upkeeping. Not too close to highly populated areas, Pretty good place for dogs and dog owners to hang out

Two decent sized fenced in areas for dogs, lots of trails and water nearby for hot days. Poop bags are regularly refilled. Always stocked with water bowls and there's a pump nearby to fill them. Most of the dogs and owners are great. Only downsides are that it can get pretty muddy for a while after rain and mowing could be more frequent. But for a free dog park it's basically perfect.

While this park is quaint & safely tucked away, on the south end of Charlottesville, it is only about two miles from shopping. It features a dog park, playground for kids, baseball field, soccer field, community garden, walking track, and a stream to fish in.
