(from Google)This park is possibly the best in the entire Metro Area for many reasons. The trails are pretty easy and graded for all levels, this park allows equestrian activity, mountain biking and e-biking, running, walking, birding and photography. There are some fun hikes here and on the Eemufu Trail on a brisk morning clear of clouds one can see MT. St Helens, Mt. Adams and Mt. Rainier in the distance. I went out today March 08th 2026 and it was super quiet before 10am with very few people out on this chilly morning and saw a Barred Owl up on the upper trails along with some mushrooms. I did see a few Bewick's Wren, Dark Eyed Junco, Song Sparrow and Douglas Squirrel. It was a nice 6 mile loop. Thanks Chehalem Ridge Nature Park....very nice day........... :)
Plenty of hiking offered. About 10 miles of trails. Mainly in wooded area but some openings available to see north to Mt St Helens and Mt Adams and west to Gaston/Coast Range. On the drive up/back from there you can see Mt Rainier, St Helens, Adams, Hood, and Jefferson. The drive will have paved road end and then about a mile or two of dirt road before getting to the park. The dirt road did have a couple potholes, but was not a problem for my car to travel on. Park area is all pavement (watch for the speed bump that at least today was hidden by dirt covering the paint), with many parking spots. The covered area had many tables should you want to have a party of some kind. And multiple (4?) bathrooms available. Trails are in good shape and well maintained. It can be hilly, with a couple spots that should be considered steep. Primary trail is called Timber Road and it is just that, a maintenance road that is wide and smooth. But the specific trails are also 2-3 people wide and well maintained. My trip was 2/4/26 on a sunny 60 degree day.
Great clean park. We took the 10 mile hike. Was towards the end a bit challenging, because we were by then a bit worn. Path was perfect. Drive to and from the park is just stunning. We went in January and it was cold, but sunny. Just beautiful.
Beautiful place for some hiking. Ample parking and really appreciate the super clean bathrooms. There's a nice grassy area with several pavilions near the parking lot. Then there are ample trails to enjoy. I was really struck by how nicely maintained the trails are. Beautiful greens to enjoy everywhere and various trails to select. You can go for a quick hike or for a longer one. We hiked the forest trail up to the road and went up and did mapa trail and then back down the road to the parking lot. It was a total of around 4 mi and took about an hour and a half. Very easy level hiking which is a few hills. Some great views to enjoy along the way and at the end. Very much recommend.
What a delight to happen upon! I did a couple of miles while enjoying the well maintained trails here. Steep in spots, there are territorial views to take in as a reward for pressing on. Other hikers, bicyclists and equestrians all shared this space nicely. There are benches every so often to rest. The restrooms and information areas are clean and taken care of and though I didn't use it, the covered area looked quite nice. I only found one of the three artist-made "elders," so will search for the other two next time!
