Best Dog Parks in Riverview & Brandon, FL — A Local's Guide (2026)

If you live in Riverview, Brandon, or Valrico, you already know the struggle — you want to take your dog out, but you're not sure which park is actually worth the drive. Some are too small. Some have no shade (and this is Florida). Some say "dog park" on Google but turn out to be a sad patch of dirt next to a baseball field.

I'm Cesar, and I live in Riverview with my pit mix Jacob. We've been to a few of these parks regularly, and the rest are on our list to visit soon. This guide is what I wish someone had given me when I first moved to the area — no fluff, no filler, just real info on the parks near us.

Pro tip: Before you drive to any of these parks, check Pawground to see if anyone's already there. Nothing worse than showing up to an empty park when your dog is ready to play.

Bertha & Tony Saladino Park — Riverview

Address: 11401 Balm Riverview Rd, Riverview, FL 33569

This is the go-to park for most Riverview dog owners, and for good reason. The dog park section is about 2.6 acres with separate areas for large and small dogs. There's covered seating, water stations, and poop bag dispensers that are actually stocked (not always a given in Hillsborough County).

What Jacob and I like: This is our go-to — we come here at least once a week. Jacob goes nuts the second we walk through the gate. He loves running laps around the park, playing with the other dogs, and sniffing every corner of the place. We've gotten to know some of the regulars here, which makes it feel like a real community. The shade from the mature trees along the edges keeps it bearable even on hot afternoons.

Watch out for: Weekend mornings can get packed. If your dog does better with fewer dogs around, try a weekday evening instead.

Mango Dog Park — Brandon/Seffner

Address: 11717 Clay Pit Rd, Seffner, FL 33584

This is one of the bigger public dog parks in the Brandon area at about 5 acres. It's fully fenced with a 6-foot chain link fence and has double-gated entries (important if your dog is a door-dasher). There are separate sections for small and large dogs, water fountains for both humans and dogs, picnic tables, and shelters.

What Jacob and I like: We haven't made it out here yet, but it's next on our list. Five acres is a lot of room, and Jacob could definitely use the space for a full sprint. There's also a children's playground adjacent, so it looks like a good option if you're bringing the whole family.

Watch out for: From what other dog owners have told us, it can get muddy after rain — the drainage isn't great in some spots. We'll be bringing a towel for the car ride home.

Apollo Beach Dog Park — Apollo Beach

Address: 664 Golf and Sea Blvd, Apollo Beach, FL 33572

About a 15-minute drive south of Riverview, Apollo Beach Dog Park is a hidden gem that a lot of Riverview locals don't know about. It's smaller than Saladino or Mango, but it's well-maintained and usually less crowded. The regulars here are friendly and the vibe is laid-back.

What Jacob and I like: We're planning to check this one out soon. It's only about 15 minutes from Riverview and the reviews say it's usually less crowded — which sounds perfect for days when Jacob needs a more chill visit.

Watch out for: It's not huge, so if your dog needs a ton of space to run, Mango or Saladino might be better.

Ott's Off-Leash Sanctuary — Ruskin

Address: 2030 E Shell Point Rd, Ruskin, FL 33570

This one is special. It's a donation-supported off-leash dog sanctuary that's open Wednesdays through Sundays, dawn to dusk. It has separate areas for small dogs, shade, benches, swings, and picnic tables. The community here is tight-knit — the regulars look out for each other and for the dogs.

What Jacob and I like: What surprised me most is that there's a walking track around the park — so you can actually get a walk in while your dog plays. Most dog parks you just stand there, but at Ott's you're moving. The vibe is really chill since it's far from big streets and heavy traffic — no road noise, just dogs playing. Jacob's first time here, he ran himself into the ground. I've never seen him that tired. He slept the whole ride home.

Watch out for: It's only open Wednesday through Sunday. Don't drive out on a Monday or Tuesday — you'll find the gates locked. Also, it runs on donations, so bring a few dollars to contribute if you can.

Alafia River State Park — Lithia (Trails)

This isn't a dog park — it's a full state park with miles of trails through old phosphate mining land. Dogs are welcome on-leash throughout the park. If your dog loves hiking and exploring more than running around a fenced area, this is the spot. The terrain is surprisingly hilly for Florida, with lakes, forests, and open fields.

Watch out for: Dogs must be on a 6-foot leash at all times — this is a state park, not an off-leash area. There's a $5 per vehicle entrance fee. Bring water for your dog because there aren't fountains on the trails.

Tips for Dog Park Visits in Riverview & Brandon

Timing matters. Florida heat is no joke from May through October. Visit before 10am or after 5pm during summer months. Your dog can burn their paws on hot ground — if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.

Bring your own water. Not every park keeps their fountains running. A collapsible bowl and a bottle of water can save your visit.

Check Pawground first. Before you drive anywhere, open Pawground and see if there are other dogs already checked in. An empty park means your pup has no one to play with. A busy park means more socialization — or more reason to wait if your dog prefers quiet.
