Angels of Assisi

Angels of Asisi is awesome and their new location is beautiful and so functional. So much more space to help save homeless animals. Our Vet Asst. Ethan was so quick and efficient, Red, Steve and Lexsie were awesome, too! WE appreciate you all taking care of our new kitten Louie. We saved so much $, so we are able to rescue and help more pets, too. God Bless You ALL!

Angels of Assisi is a wonderful place. Today I had a pet emergency for my kitty Zephyrus. Red the receptionist didn't only help get my kitty the surgery he needed she was wonderful with me as a scared fur mom. She helped me sign up for Care Credit so my fur baby could get the care he so desperately needed. She calmed me down and assured me that my baby was going to be okay. Lexi the vet tech and Betsy the other receptionist went over and beyond to help me and Zephyrus. They sat down with me and gave me step by step post op instructions. I will definitely be bringing all my fur babies here in the future. I really can't thank them enough for helping me.

I took my dog to see them as a patient for the first time in 2017 and remember having a very good experience then! Flash forward 9 years, and I take a feral for a TNR spay and have an equally good experience. For starters, their parking lot was nearly full by 7:30 am - and for me, that's a sign of a place that is making good on their word to help animals in the community! The gentleman who checked me in was very kind and helpful. I was greeted with a smile, despite the busy environment, and was able to get the cat checked in and dropped off. When they called me for her pickup, Becky was very kind on the phone and accommodating as I let them know that someone else would be picking up the cat and paying due to my work schedule. I appreciate the work they're doing for our community. The Roanoke Valley is very fortunate to have a place such as this to care for our fur babies - stray, feral, and homed!

I have a couple things to say here… some dating back to 2018…. 2018: adopted a wire haired, 8 y/o dachshund… their description of the sweet boy was incredibly wrong. He was not good with other animals and kids as they had listed. He did build a tight relationship with me, however we already had an 8 year old dachshund who he was not kind to + I was pregnant and he was super defensive of me and bit 4 people already, so we had to return him after 5ish months. They posted him with the same description they had originally which was a fat lie. I tried to ask them not to, but they stopped taking my calls. 2025: We took our Great Pyrenees there to get spayed… they do not let you back at all. You never get to meet the vet or speak directly to them. We had issues after hand, took her in to be checked… again, never get to see the vet. It’s he said she said with the assistant and the owner… but let’s talk about this…. There was a gal in there with her dachshund, she said he broke his little toe on his paw and they said they wanted to AMPUTATE the entire paw…. Without actually talking with the vet. I asked if she was shown the X-rays and she said they only gave her a small thumbnail photo of the xray on a print out, and I repeat.. no face to face with the vet. She did not opt for the amputation, and treated with antibiotics and pain medication. This visit where I met her, was her follow up. They took her sweet dog back, returned saying he STILL has a fever and he needs more antibiotics and pain medicine (literally just robbing this lady). THEN… they bring my Great Pyrenees back out and says she has a fever… at this point I 1000% know this is their scam. People— dogs get fevers when high stressed. They make us sit in the waiting room FOREVER increasing their stress levels. We sat in the lobby for almost an hour. I’ve NEVER had this experience at a normal vets office. Not to mention the staff working was rude and literally eating frosted wheaties one foot from my dog and I…. Fast forward to the mega adoption event at Berglund…. We almost didn’t go because it was Angels, but had to remember it’s not these sweet babies fault that the management and establishment is terrible. We adopted a beautiful kitten. Tried to reschedule the next set of shots, NO RESPONSE. Received an email from the so called adoption director, Ethan… emailed back my concerns and asked for help, again NO RESPONSE. Went ahead and established care with our primary Vet, where we know he will receive the best care— but nonetheless this establishment should hold true to their word which they do not. BEWARE!! They need a serious investigation into their business aspect, because it is not well. These poor animals 😫

Most of the staff are extremely professional and polight. Unfortunately one outlier is very condescending to customers, especially to elders. Suggested looking at Facebook and instagram for holiday hours over and over. It is very easy to update these things on google. Not to mention the filthy blanket I was given. My experience coming a year ago was so much more pleasant. Would not recommend except for strays. Reddit lists many other clinics/vets with well rounded workers.
