Walnut Woods is a quiet, out of the way park. Good for camping. Plenty of spots for trailers, not too far from Jordan Creek, yet very serene. They have a bird watching hut and a few trails. Playground for the kids. Not too many frills. Took Archie there, he enjoyed the quick hike. Saw a raccoon.

Peaceful, scenic, oasis of good just outside of Des Moines. I love the walking trails, the nearby water, its bridges, and LOVE the bird observation area near the parking lot. Such a wonderful place.

Nestled just 25 minutes outside of downtown Des Moines, Walnut Woods State Park Campground offers a serene escape into nature without straying too far from the city’s conveniences. Stayed in campsite 18 for the holiday weekend. Nice quiet campground overall. It rained quite a bit and the campsite was a muddy mess with several inches of water standing on the pad under my camper. Have a lot of cleanup to do at home today on the camper. The pedestrian bridge is very nice and a nice walk for the dogs.
