Mary Moore Searight Off Leash Trailhead

I love having an off leash dog park for my furry child. A lot of land the only downside is the homeless however I've never encountered an issue with them. Just use your judgment. Don't go hiking late at night and stay in the active areas.

It's cool when it's cool, but beware, some selfish, self centered adults forget this is supposed to be a safe place for innocence. This is a park. Parks are for children, dogs and families. Be respectful.

Mary Moore Searight Park is one of those places you’d never expect to be as big or as peaceful as it is. From the outside it feels pretty low-key, but once you’re inside, it opens up into a massive park with plenty of space to explore. It’s a great spot if you want to enjoy nature without dealing with the crowds you usually find at other Austin parks. The trails are a big highlight. There are several miles to walk, hike, or bike, with a main loop and smaller trails branching off. There is also a horse riding trail and an off leash dog trail. There’s also a lot to do beyond the trails. The park has picnic and barbecue areas, tennis courts,a basketball court, a disc golf course, a fishing pier, a nice playground, and a radio-controlled model airplane airport. The Ralph DeClairmont Flying Field, home to the Hill Country Aeromodelers, a radio-controlled model airplane club that flies from a dedicated field within the park. The flying field is located inside Mary Moore Searight Park. The field is open year-round during regular park hours, from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Access is controlled by a locked gate for members, but spectators are welcome when the gate is open and members are flying.

Things I feel others should know when coming here. It’s all trees. No field. Can get stuffy, no breeze because you’re in the trees. Not fenced in. There are remains of what could have possibly been a fenced in area. I find this area boring for the dogs, so when we want a nice boring walk we come here. Usually twice a year.

Great spot to bring my 7 month old pup to gain trust with her off leash! She loved playing in the water and getting to explore as I walked close by. For water crossings there are some rickety boards laying across to walk over which is actually kinda fun. There are one or two gaps in the fence so if your dog likes to bolt, beware.
