(from Google)There is something special about walking into Base Camp Restaurant. Nestled at 2611 W Colorado Ave in Old Colorado City, it feels intentional, welcoming, and rooted in Colorado flavor from the very first glance at the menu. Every dish we experienced was layered, thoughtful, and incredibly fresh. We began with the loaded baked potato topped with broccolini, bacon, white cheddar sauce, sage aioli, and trout roe. It was rich without being heavy, perfectly balanced with the salt of the roe and the freshness of the broccolini. Each bite was savory and vibrant, proof that even a comfort classic can be elevated into something extraordinary. The warm spinach salad was just as impressive. Tossed in a bacon vinaigrette with pickled shallots, we substituted goat cheese and added candied pecans, which gave it the perfect creamy and sweet contrast. The ingredients tasted garden fresh and beautifully composed. Nothing felt rushed. Nothing felt ordinary. The molasses glazed salmon with cranberry barley risotto was the star of the evening. The salmon was cooked to perfection, tender and flaky with a subtle caramelized glaze that complemented the bright tartness of the cranberry barley. It was hearty yet refined, deeply savory and undeniably Colorado inspired. What sets this place apart is not only the quality of the food but the heart behind it. Chef Matt graciously donated a $75 gift card to support an upcoming local charity event at @everydaygirl_adventures for @theunderdogswithdogheaven benefiting both the Woodland Park and Colorado Springs communities that @dogheavenllc helps. That generosity speaks volumes about the kind of establishment this is. Fresh ingredients. Bold yet balanced flavors. A menu that feels curated and intentional. Base Camp is not just a meal. It is an experience and truly a must visit in Old Colorado Springs. Thank you mcjonesy22 for the work lunch chatting all things community and nonprofits. @basecampcos is a must experience part of Colorado. 🩷, @p31_home #p31home #community #coloradosprings
I'll level with you . . . Atmosphere was perfect, we were the only ones there for lunch! My mom doesn't like loud places and has specific food needs. We love shared plate restaurants, this was perfect!!! I loved the seasonal cosmo cocktail, we shared the bean something and beef check something arepa. Sorry I don't remember the names, but they were fabulous and perfect for a light lunch. I'll be back for dinner and love the menu set up for picking your own options. And also want to try the chef choice dinner option!
Update 2: The new fall menu is excellent. I highly recommend the 'Choose Your Own Adventure' option, because it allows you to try a dish from each course. It was plenty of food for two people and a great value for the quantity and quality. The service was also very friendly! Update 1: We tried out their new summer menu and it's amazing! We chose our own adventure and tried the pork green chile meatballs, the potato salad, the zucchini Tikka masala, the lamb ribs, and the peach dumplings. Everything was cooked perfectly; the flavors were incredible, and it showed the amount of thought and attention to detail in every dish. Service was amazing as well, and the chef was kind enough to stop by our table to chat with us and get our feedback. We're looking forward to trying more dishes on this menu! Initial review: Amazing food, friendly service, and reasonably priced. Everything was super tasty! The trout crocketes with the dill aioli was delicious, the bison steak frites was super tender and the chimichurri sauce brighten up the dish. The shepherd's pie is by far the best we've ever had. Also, our server was very kind and gave us treats for our pup, which he loved!
Top Notch!! To start, Collin was amazing. He knew the menu and was passionate about making our experience better. This is definitely a meal with an experience!! The food….. the food was amazing. We went with the “Choose your own adventure” and were 100% satisfied. Each course was delicious and well presented. 5 stars!
First time trying out base camp and it was wonderful! All the food was made well with just the right amount of flavor. Ingredients were fresh and their marshmallows and Graham crackers were homemade! We had the spring onions stew that had the perfect onion flavor and was not salty at all. The smoked trout croquettes with the perfect amount of smokiness and properly textured. There was the steak frites with chimmichuri sauce and wow!!! The bison Flatiron (locally sourced) was so tender. The chimmicburi sauce added a nice complement but didn't take away or over power the flavor of the meat. Next was the Shepard's pie and I'm honestly really picky with my lamb but they did not disappoint. It was a lamb stew and that sauce was nicely flavored and a bit thick. Then we had the BLAT which had a braised pork belly, pastry puff, tomato compote, and some avocado. Usually pork belly can be overly greasy but these were not. A bit of a messy dish but great flavor combos. For dessert we had the mint s'mores. I wanted to try this since the marshmallow and Graham crackers are homemade. I personally am not a mint chocolate fan so wasn't too enthused with that part. But the marshmallow was really good. Only wished the marshmallow was charred more. Overall, the food is excellent here. There isn't any overwhelming or overpowering flavors competing against each other. And nothing felt or tasted too oily or too rich. There was just such great balance and you can tell they use good quality ingredients. Lastly, the service was excellent. Our server Janelle (unsure if that is spelled right) was so warm and inviting. Gave us great suggestions and was overall very attentive and kind. Will definitely coming back! Hoping to try their homemade biscuits next time 🤤
