(from Google)It's been abandoned for a while but looks like it was very nice still very pleasant
This place was probably beautiful at one point, but it looks like it hasn't been maintained in years. I had a hell of a time finding my way around because the trails were generally not well marked and overgrown. I even asked a local cop where to go and he didn't even seem to know what I was talking about. The trails I didn't find that took me towards the coast were full of trash. The marsh was blocked by trail-side vegetation so I couldn't see it. I was able to walk out into the marsh, a substantial portion of which was dry, through an opening in the vegetation, but there wasn't much to see. The trail eventually led to the beach. I walked a mile or two down the beach, which alternated between sandy and rocky (gravel), but there wasn't much to see. On the other side (away from the shore), the trail was too overgrown to go more than a few hundred yards. The bathroom structure along the way was dilapidated and I was worried it was going to collapse under my feet. Overall, I'd avoid this place until some serious effort is put into maintaining it. I won't go so far as to say it was a wasted afternoon, but it was pretty close.
I truly enjoyed my hike at this nature preserve! Being immersed in the beauty of nature, the bright blue skies, feeling the wind, listening to the Caribbean sea, and appreciating the flora and fauna was good medicine. I'm thankful for the people that conserve and care for this piece of heaven on earth.
I didn't get to go to the bosque (forest) I went to the part where the food, board walk and kids park are. Very nice. Beautiful scenery.
The place is basically abandoned. Walkway is broken and a prohibited sign is out front. The area was dry and full of dead fish and dead iguana. I assume the fish died when the area dried up, no idea why so many dead iguana.
