Unity Island Park

Great place to see the sunset and enjoy a little nature and water while in the city

Be careful before you go over the bridge the roads are terrible & visible proof of careless mismanagement of city property. It's a basket of surprises, twists, turns, people and views of all sorts. Very cool once you survive the bridge.

Been many times in the past with my dogs. Path along the lake is now full of garbage. Litter, plastic refuse, broken glass, fish hooks, fish lines, plastic gloves, beer cans and more. People come here to fish, care little for the environment, leave their garbage everywhere like a child who expects mommy to clean up after them. Maybe all the mercury from the fish caught up with them. Garbage is prevalent in the wider park, which is used as a dumping ground. Pavilions where parties were hosted have not been cleaned up. It's quite sad. The park could be wonderful. I'll add that there are also a number of homeless people who hang out here in tents.

GOOD VIEWS, FISHING AND A TRAIL It's a nice spot for fishing and the view is mesmerizing. The mini bridge to the park is a two-way but has only one lane. If it's your first time, don't get confused as I was. If you see oncoming vehicles, just wait for them to cross the bridge, as a courtesy. PARKING Do yourself a favor and drive all the way to the end of the park and park your car there. Then keep walking straight. The end of the park has better views, in my opinion.

The park was completely trashed when my family and I went here. There was trash everywhere and several full size garbage cans that were mostly empty. It doesn't appear that it gets cleaned regularly or that anyone cares to pick up after themselves.
