(from Google)Beautiful shady coastal park with both recycled rubber and shell paths meanderng through pristine pine and oak forests, where you can sometimes see tortoises and raccoons. There are benches and shelters throughout, and a wonderful nature center and clean bathrooms. There is also a fun playground with a zip line loved by kids and parents alike, but the unique and most fun thing is the turtle spa, where you can watch and feed 5 species of turtles while they swim, sun leisurely on platforms together, and even climb trees! Volunteers regularly take rescued birds like tiny screech owls out for friendly and informative walks. This nature park is one of my favorites and truly a local treasure!
We’ve spontaneously stopped by at this park. We saw the sign out along the road side and decided to take a late afternoon stroll. Surprisingly this park was so much more than we’ve expected. As we walked onto the trails we saw a rabbit hopped across the path. The turtles in the pond was too adorable. The trails are shaded and just so beautiful seeing all the natural foliage and wild flowers. There is also an exhibit with a few birds. This park is nice. Some of the trails are easy on the feet might I add, there is a cushion textured feel to the pavement. Some accesses to the bridge were closed, hopefully the next time I visit I can further explore this park.
The park is quite small with limited parking. There is a small selection of various raptors and a pond with lots and lots of turtles. The boardwalk is being renovated and is estimated to open Spring 2027. There is a playground with a zip line for the kids. Perhaps once the boardwalk opens this would be a park with a bit more pizzazz.
I love McGough Nature Park! It features a pleasant, less-than-a-mile loop trail with a recycled-tire surface, which is easy on the joints. The park also offers side paths and boardwalks for exploring other natural areas. Unfortunately, the boardwalk leading to the Intracoastal Waterway is currently under repair due to damage from the 2024 hurricane season. A posted sign indicates an anticipated reopening in 2027. I especially enjoy seeing the rescued birds of prey, particularly “Sarge,” the bald eagle! The area around the pond is also a great spot to observe and feed the turtles. Finally, the nature center is worth a visit to see the other animals they care for.
This is a beautiful area with a bird sanctuary. For people expecting an hour long hike it, it is not for you as it is very small especially since the boardwalk to the intercoastal is under repair till 2027. Besides that it is a great little park with lots of wildlife. There are restrooms and 4 picnic pavilions with free parking and entrance to the park.
