Bocata Smokehouse & Restaurant

My family went here recently and really liked it. This is our second time eating here but the first time we got a pick up order. I will admit, I was not a huge fan of the take out we had gotten which was just some mahi mahi bites. They tasted a lot more fishy than what I prefer. Also, we waited for a long time in the parking lot for this order to be finished after taking about 20 mins to get there after placing the order. I was very excited to give them another shot though as those were minor issues in my eyes when deciding if you really like a restaurant. So, the only thing that I have negative to say is that the wait was pretty extreme again. We are used to the concept of island time but we waited close to an hour for one platter that we shared between the four of us. That said, the waitress was very attentive and made it clear that she was aware the wait was a lot, was apologetic and gave us a free beer along with the rest of my espresso martini that wouldn’t fit in my glass. Her customer service absolutely made up for the long wait! Once we got the food… thoroughly satisfied! It was all delicious! I love the fresh cut French fries and only wish they had some apple cider vinegar to remind me a little bit more of MD. All the different meats were all cooked perfectly, loved the smokiness! The restaurant has a really laid back comfortable feel to it. I really liked that it was open and obviously the view is perfect. They have a great little spot to take pictures right across the street. My daughter and I walked down to the beach for a few while we waited, which was really nice and I didn’t feel uncomfortable then walking back into the restaurant with sand on my feet :) We will definitely be returning but will maybe take the wait into consideration ahead of time so we don’t have any time constraints.

Very disappointing experience. Two of our three orders had cold fries that had to be replaced. Both brisket burgers were missing the bacon we ordered, and the patties looked more like ground beef and were undercooked in the center. I felt sick afterward. To make matters worse, the bathroom had no running water. This is the second time in a month this has happened, which makes you seriously question hygiene, including whether employees are able to wash their hands. I will not be returning.

The service wasn’t rushed. It was real. Warm. Human. Every plate arrived with care, every word with kindness. In a world that moves fast, this place reminds you how beautiful it is when people slow down long enough to truly see you. Five stars isn’t enough. Pictures next time because I scarfed my food down but I plan to revisit soon.
