POMDR is one of the most incredible organizations in the USA. There is no detail they have not dialed in to make the process of finding your furry forever companion an absolute pleasure. I can't say enough good things about this group of people, how hard they work, how much they care. We have adopted twice from POMDR and look forward to the day when we'll be able to do it again. Don't hesitate to use this rescue, they are simply the best!

I adopted Mojo, my sweet senior dog, from POMDR about six months ago. I'm based in Vancouver, Canada and decided to make the trip from Vancouver to Monterey because of how supportive, caring, responsive, and informative the staff and volunteers at POMDR were from day one. I was immediately able to see how deeply this rescue cares for each animal- they truly provide exceptional veterinary care, emotional support, and social support for the animals they take in. POMDR provided me with Mojo's full medical history and a very accurate description of his personality right away, allowing me to make a fully informed decision as to whether I could provide the best possible life for Mojo. Mojo has been the most wonderful, patient, and loving dog, and I truly can't imagine a life where I never took a chance on him. Mojo received such great veterinary care for previous health issues (dental disease, allergies) while at POMDR that even though he is almost 14, I have not had any medical expenses for him beyond standard veterinary care. Mojo is in great health and still has so much pep in his step that he's been to Florida, Mexico, and Toronto with me in the 6 months we've had together. Mojo enjoys joining me for little hikes and camping trips, and still has lots of energy and love to give. I'm truly so grateful to POMDR for what they do and for taking such great care of the dogs that find their way to this rescue. If you are hesitant about adopting a senior dog, just know that POMDR will be fully open about any needs they may have and the dog's energy levels. A lot of senior dogs don't have any additional medical needs and still have a lot of life and love left to share- take the leap if you are considering adopting a senior dog! Thank you POMDR!

When my pup moved here with me from Utah, there was more than the political climate changing—the atmospheric climate changed as well as some of the “fun” inhabitants at dog parks, and I’m not talking about the four-legged heavy-breathers. So it wasn’t that creepy to discover my poor baby had some unusually scratchy bug bites that I assumed (you DO understand the meaning of that word, right?) belonged to fleas, gnats, nits, tics, or something I hadn’t yet heard of. Thank goodness she has a skin agitation from the transition of dry and cold to hot and humid. Thanks to Peace of Mind Dog Rescue, I was able to ensure her safety as well as get her vaccinations up to date. My baby is important to me—not because she’s my best friend, but because she’s a highly trained service animal that allows my participation in public. Without her, I’d be lost. So, thank you for EVERYTHING, including allowing me to know that my move from Utah was worth it. California could be its own country if attitude had anything to do with the dividing lines. And for anyone to argue, go stay a spell in Utah, but you’ll have an impossible time locating anything like Peace of Mind Dog Rescue!

I cannot say enough about PMDR. Our new pupper ran into my classroom on Halloween, to escape admin and staff who were trying to catch her. She ran up to me, sat down and made hard eye contact. She let me pick her up, and the oxtocin started pumping.I fell in love with her. But - she was clearly someone's pet, and I didn't want to bring her home without knowing. So, she was taken by animal control. My wife and I called daily to see how and where she was, but she disappeared from the Hitchcock facility and they would not tell us where she was. Then, the algorithm on social media brought her picture to us and we found PMDR. Withing hours, we were preparing to bring her home. When I picked her up, I was amazed at the facility. It was so clean and calm. The staff is professional and friendly, and the dogs are all happy and safe. Ours was waiting for us, asleep comfortably in a warm blanket in the office. We received a leash, harness, collar and treats for the ride home. And even better, as our pup is 10 years old, she needed some veterinary care. PMDR covered it all. So while adoption fees can feel steep, as a former veterinary technician, I can promise you that we brought our dog home for about 10% of what her medical bills would be. Finally, being lost or abandoned is a hellish traumatic experience for dogs. PMDR made ours feel safe and loved. She has adjusted so well to the pets we already had in our home, and she is an absolute love. As with people, age and wisdom need to be cherished, and PMDR probably has a marvelous companion for anyone who is looking for unconditional love on 4 legs. I cannot recommend them enough.

This is a private nonprofit organization that helps dogs and people come together. Specializing in elder and special needs dogs that are considered less adoptable in shelters. It is an Incredible organization that is run on a professional level. Their dogs are often from shelters and go straight into foster homes when possible, helping avoid more trauma. They have their own veterinary services for their dogs and are passionate about each dog. Please consider fostering and if you can’t foster, please think of them when you are looking for a good organization to donate to.
