(from Google)This beach was great. Definately worth the two hour drive. My only gripe is that the do not have any spots to wash yourself down after you get out of that ocean water. My family and I enjoyed a day trip hear filled with swimming, picture taking and watching the fish swim beneath us.
If you’re visiting Isabela, Montones Beach is an absolute must-see. It is widely considered one of the best swimming spots in the area, especially if you’re looking for a relaxing day by the water. It's definitely a 5 out of 5, and my wife enjoyed it very much. We tried to go see the sunset, but unfortunately, we woke up a bit late but the view was still breathtaking. Here’s why it stands out: The Natural Pool: A large shallow area is protected by a natural rock wall, which keeps the heavy surf out and creates a calm, crystal-clear "pool." It’s perfect for wading, floating, and families with children. Easy Accessibility: Unlike some of the more rugged beaches, Montones is easy to get to, with plenty of nearby spots to grab a cold drink or a local snack. There are also Airbnb's with a porch leading right to the beach, which is very convenient. Golden Sands: The beach itself is wide and beautiful including plenty of space to set up your umbrella and enjoy the amazing view. Great for Snorkeling: When the tide is right, you can see plenty of small fish darting around the rocks in the calm areas. We didn't get to go underwater, but we did see many schools of fishes very close to the shore. Pro Tip: While Montones is a dream for swimming, if you are looking for a similar vibe but in Vieques, I highly recommend making the trip over to Playa Bastimento. It’s a bit more private, massive in size, and seeing the wild horses and searching for sea glass there is an experience you won't forget! I also included photos I took at that beach. (Last 3)
Montones Beach in Isabela, Puerto Rico, is an absolute gem! This breathtaking public beach stole my heart with its pristine golden sands, very shallow crystal-clear turquoise waters, and serene vibe. The natural beauty is unmatched—perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or just soaking in the sun with the gentle sound of waves. The beach is clean, well-maintained, and offers a peaceful escape from crowded tourist spots. Surrounded by lush greenery and unique rock formations, it’s a photographer’s paradise. The beach vibe is welcoming, with nearby food stalls serving delicious Puerto Rican treats. A must-visit for anyone seeking a slice of paradise!
This beach offers a diverse experience with a calm, shallow area behind the rocks and an open section with larger waves. While there isn't much natural shade, there are vendors renting out chairs and umbrellas. Parking is available for $10, and free restrooms make the visit more convenient. There are also hotels and restaurants nearby. It does get fairly crowded on weekends, but the vibrant atmosphere adds to the experience.
It's a beautiful beach with a bay shielded from waves, which is great for swimming. There is also a very shallow pool where one can just sit in the water and enjoy the sun. It's not too crowded, and sometimes it even feels a bit secluded. It was our favorite beach to go swimming when we stayed in the Isabella area.
