(from Google)Belle isle is the perfect place to get in nature and on trails but still staying in the heart of Richmond. A beautiful suspension bridge brings you to the isle and there are various trails. There is easy access to rocks that people like to sit on and also lay and ran during the summer. Some people get into the water and swim, but I personally would not as the James River is disgusting and polluted. There are neat wildlife to see on the isle. The trails are also connected to other trails on the James River Trail System. Also if you take a left after getting of the suspension bridge the trail will take you to a great view of the Richmond skyline. Would highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.
We were visiting from out of town and took the kids for a short hike here. There were lovely views of the river, some interesting abandoned buildings, and a fun bike skills area. We also discovered a cool pedestrian walkway under the main road leading back toward downtown. It was a fun family outing!
Belle Isle is a true gem! This park offers something for everyone, from adrenaline junkies to those seeking a peaceful stroll. The pump track is a fantastic addition for bike enthusiasts, providing a fun and challenging ride. For climbers, the rock climbing area is a welcome and unique feature. What I particularly loved was the flat loop trail with its stunning river views – perfect for an easy walk and soaking in the scenery. But don't let that fool you; Belle Isle also boasts a fantastic network of more challenging trails that are an absolute blast to explore. Whether you're looking for a leisurely afternoon or an adventurous outing, Belle Isle is a must-visit!
Went on a birthday morning hike here with my boyfriend this past weekend and it was nice! Overall it was cool. Signs - better signage for the buildings. No signs at all. Some explanation would help your guests learn. Nice they had a Bike area for active visitors. They need to add Trail markers to confirm going the right way. We almost got lost but we found the correct path after trail and error in the daylight. I would go back.
Lot's of trails on this island and plenty of history here. It is to bad that people use graffiti on anything and have spoiled the old buildings and signs. You're supposed to be able to scan a QR code for a walking tour of the island but the graffiti has covered the code and you can't get to it. There's some fantastic views of the river.
