Beach volleyball, food and drinks , and live music . Parking has different fees and rules because it's a beach under the town of Babylon. It's off ocean beach parkway so it's a nice place to stop for a visit .
Perfect "round the corner" place. Clean beach ,warm water, toilets and shower avaliable. Visited about 4 times during my holiday.
I have checked out this beach off-season in early spring and spent few hours exploring the area around. 9/11 memorial is very touching. Crossing the pathway under Ocean Parkway provides access to the Bay Area with its pier into the Great Bay and its picturesque views. There is walkway from Cedar Beach parking to Overlook Beach if you prefer that one. I’ve hiked from Overlook to Sore Thumb Beach to its promontory tip and back within an hour and it was highlight of the day. Curious observation is that both Cedar and Overlook beaches are protected from large waves by shelf extending from tip of Fire Island, so should be good for swimmers.
Nice beach. Not very crowded. Free parking and entry. Bathhouse was open for changing. Restaurant was closed. Beach has trash on the shoreline. Large volleyball tournament going on. Lots of play fields.
