For a local park inside the city, this is as close to "getting away" as I've found. There are both paved and natural trails, a creek bed and woodland areas to explore as well. Once you get 1/4 into the trails you can nearly hear the sounds of the city and traffic. Well maintained and with the exception of sharing the trails with trailbikes (so far all friends and share the trail), you almost feel you are in actual nature.

Bamberger Nature Park is one of San Antonio’s best hidden outdoor spots, tucked near the intersection of Babcock Road and De Zavala on the city’s northwest side. Even though it sits close to busy streets and neighborhoods, the park feels quiet and removed from the noise once you step onto the trails. Its convenient location makes it easy to reach for families, students from nearby UTSA, and anyone living in the Medical Center or Stone Oak areas. One of the most special features of the park is its peaceful fishing area along Leon Creek. It’s a low-key, hidden spot where visitors can sit by the water, relax, and enjoy nature. You won’t find large crowds there, which makes it perfect for early morning fishing or just unwinding after a long week. The creek also adds to the park’s natural beauty, especially after rainfall when the water is flowing steadily. The hiking trails are another highlight. Bamberger offers well-maintained dirt and paved trails that wind through wooded areas, open spaces, and along the creek. The trails are great for walking, jogging, biking, or bringing the kids out for some fresh air. There are shaded sections that make it comfortable even during warmer months, and the park feels safe and family-friendly. Overall, Bamberger Nature Park is a true hidden gem on the northwest side of San Antonio. Its easy access from Babcock and De Zavala, peaceful fishing spot, and scenic hiking trails make it a great place to escape the city without actually leaving it.

It's a park with easy walking trails. It's full of trees and native vegetation, and you can sometimes spot wildlife. There is free parking at the entrance with portable restrooms.

Great place to start if you're going on the Leon creek trail. This location has several other trails and plenty of parking. There is alot of development in the area so it's sure to get busier in the coming months/years. It is well marked and has lots of options depending on how long of a run/walk you're looking for. There is an air station for bikes and a port-o-potty of needed, which was clean. It's centrally location on the trail so this is a good place to start.
