This is not porter beach just as another reviewer stated below this is the park area parking! You have to buy a pass to use this parking area which leads to another access area of the Dunes. One of my favorite areas to go and collect rocks, since that's a favorite hobby of mine. I love going on days when it's cloudy or sunny the water is beautiful. Love this area 🩷 always a good spot check it out whether you're a native or from out of town!

Growing up in Chicago, I have never seen a beach so clean and serene. Parking is ASTRONOMICAL, but I think it's worth it for the day if you have a good plan. The sand is fine and the beach is very clean. Even though it was crowded, groups were socially distant. I enjoyed every minute of it, but be prepared to find sand in your vehicle for weeks, lol. It was a great place to spend Labor Day. Update- (Father's Day weekend 2022) I took a star away because of the parking lot attendant. Not only did parking increase another $10 for parking (making it 30$ to park there) but the parking lot guy was SUPER RUDE and threatened to tow my truck. From the beach, he called out the wrong model of my truck which caused me to ignore his threats. Once I realized what was going on, I walked over to the lot and he screamed at me that the lot closed at 7 pm, there were no signs (only that the beach closed at 9 pm so we assumed that it was open until close, especially with the price of parking. The parking pass didn't have a time, and he locked us in screaming at us that he was calling a tow truck. It almost ruined my experience completely. I'll be back to the beach but NEVER to that parking lot. If you do decide to go, make sure to ask what time the lot closes. UPDATE OF THE UPDATE- That privately owned parking area is gone now which gives a much more enjoyable experience. Please enjoy the beach and take it all in.

What a beautiful beach! $12 for out of state or $7 for Indiana residents. The place has a ton of parking, and the beach goes on for miles. There's a really nice plaza to get food and drinks. And of course dunes and trees to find a spot for your own enjoyment. Water is the perfect cool temperature for a hot day.

A great place to enjoy a hot sunny day! I would recommend getting here early though and walking around until the beach actually gets hot. The line to get in at noon took about an hour, we knew this, but wanted to do the cowles bog trail in the morning (do this too if you wana go on a fantastic hike). There are more people towards the middle and left side. We went more to the right and it was less crowded. Great options for lunch at the Cafe and snack/ice cream shop on the side. They have changing rooms and restrooms outside and showers which was nice. Good clean bathrooms inside too.
