Masonboro Island Reserve

Scenic uninhabited island only accessible by water. A beautiful place to visit by kayak or small boat!

We paddled over with Wilmington Outdoor Adventures. (W.O.A.) Paddle trip was at sun-set. Paddle to and from Masonboro Island was filled with wildlife, beautiful natural scenery and very peaceful. Once on the Island...sand, shells and sunshine 🌞 amazing trip I will do over and over. 7 inhabitants on the Island our trip. Peace and serenity was had by all. Even a wedding proposal...she said YES!

If you're lucky enough to know someone with a boat, this is the best place to visit! Not crowded at all, great for seashell hunting, beach sports, and viewing wildlife (birds, crabs, etc). We spent all day here enjoying the little tide pools that formed and walking in the soft sand. Water (on the beach side) was a bit rough for swimming and you need to bring your own tent, towels, etc- There is no natural shade whatsoever. Also, be sure to take your trash with you when you leave as there are no garbage cans. Perfect spot for a beach day!

Beautiful uninhabited island on the edge of the world. A boat, kayak, or paddle board needed to get out there. Kayaks or paddle boards can launch from Trails End Park. You can see the access point in the satellite view of Google maps. Make sure you check the tides, it turns to mud at low tide. If you time it right, you can get a boost going out as the tide comes in and a boost returning as the tide goes out. Good luck!

Really nice and isolated. Just a strip of sand. Not much more to say. Tried fishing the inland side but nothing was biting.
