Palmer Park

Begin at the Paseo trailhead. The route starts gently, crossing short grasslands dotted with yucca and rabbitbrush as the city recedes. After a quarter mile, the path curves up toward sandstone formations; the incline is steady but manageable, offering early glimpses of layered rock and occasional scrub jays. At mile one, reach a low ridge with sweeping views of Colorado Springs and distant Pikes Peak—pause to take in the panorama and the textured reds of the outcrops. Continue on a singletrack that descends into a juniper-strewn draw; the trail narrows, the footing more technical, and birdcalls punctuate the quiet. Around mile two, join the mesa loop and choose the higher spine route. The surface becomes rockier; steady footing rewards with window-like breaks between fins revealing the eastern plains. Midway, pass a popular bouldering alcove where vertical faces add sculptural interest to the landscape. Proceed east into a shaded wash lined with cottonwoods; the trail flattens and cools, and the scent of sage intensifies. Near mile three, follow a serpentine switchback climbing to a lone hill crowned by pines—an ideal spot for a short rest and snack with expansive views. The final mile traverses open grassland back toward Paseo, passing interpretive signs about local geology and indigenous history. Finish at the trailhead with the park’s quiet still fresh in your steps.

It is a nice park they did a great job with all the concrete. It got rid of a lot of the dust of that part of the parking area. It has 2 spaces one for the bigger dogs and one side for the smaller dogs and cats 😀. Plus you can go for a nice walk through the hills. They have some great bike paths as well.

Love this place just watch out for mountain lions. I have hiked here quite a few times and there are a few pretty cool *small caves and ancient rock formations to explore.. but about a month back I was hiking up by one of the caves and there was about 120 lb mountain lion that was standing on a rock staring at me and my friend. I can't sit here and say I'm shocked I mean it's Colorado but it's the first time I've ever encountered one and I do a lot of Hiking..We backed away slowly and I had bear spray *luckily* and especially now I just refuse to hike without it but thankfully in this situation I didn't have to use it. You don't really realize how big they are until you are right up on one 😬It didn't want anything to do with us and went on about its business but be aware that this is their territory 💯

This is a great place to hike! I love all the established trails. Lots of great views. This is also a perfect place to take a date! Just don’t try any monkey business cause the cops to patrol the place. But it’s still private enough to make out just keep it PG!
