(from Google)Nice hike to the beach. We took the trail along the river most of it is gravel. Lots of surfers here and families as well. We came around 10:45am parking was already filling up. Found a couple agates too!
It’s always kinda funny rating a natural place- but this one too is 5/5! A beautiful beach with tide pools, amazing rock cliffs, huge trees, surfing, and beach playing! A few hiking trails link up to the main trail from the parking lot to the beachfront, including the Oregon Coast Trail! Have a short (or long!) day at Short Sand and you won’t regret it! ;) 🤙
Wonderful walk through ancient forest on well-traveled path along river down to Short Sand Beach. Beautiful overgrowth of trees, amazing nursing logs, accompanied by sound of gurgling river. Picnic tables and restrooms when you reach the upper plateau before going down to surfing beach. Easy grade, no sudden terrain drops. Ideal for elders and children.
More crowded than other beaches since it attracta surfers; if you don't surf you might prefer Hug Point or Chapman Beach. But the forest walk down to the beach (about a mile), through some magnificent old-growth evergreens, has much to recommend it.
Beautiful state park! Worth a stop if you are driving along the coast. The hiking trails are well maintained and easy to walk on. Dog friendly, and you are rewarded a gorgeous ocean view at the end of the short sand beach trail. Try to catch this place when the sun is out.
