(from Google)Berret's is all about the food and service. There isn't a view, but they are located right on the outside of the historic Williamsburg village. For evening and busy season it is highly recommended to make a reservation. Their specialty is seafood, especially oysters. There is a very nice selection of locally sourced oysters that are super fresh.
The food and service were absolutely amazing. The building and atmosphere may seem casual, but the food is top notch. The she-crab soup was the best soup I've ever eaten. I didn't want it to end. Our server was full of personality and made us laugh, but was also very professional. Great experience overall and we will definitely return when we visit Williamsburg again.
I definitely saved the best for last on this trip! Berret's was the best restaurant experience I had in Williamsburg. The seafood is fantastic, and the $1 oysters cannot be beaten by any other restaurant : incredible quality and amazing value! Plus, the location is prime, as it's walking distance to both the Williamsburg historical site and William & Mary College. If you're looking for great seafood, amazing deals, and convenience, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!
The ambience and the service was very good. There was a cosy fireplace and our server was amazing. The food was good but the real disappointment was the dessert. Both the carrot cake and the molten lava cake were smothered in caramel. That's not close to an original recipe and it was too sweet to consume and totally changed the flavor profile.
After reading the reviews, we drove 1.4 hours to experience the pleasure of dining at Berret's to celebrate a 65th birthday. We were not disappointed. We made a noontime reservation via Open Table. If you prefer the main dining area, make reservation or arrive early. Place fills up quickly. We arrived 15 minutes early. Merchants square parking can be congested and spaces are narrow. Large trucks/SUVs may need to park st 410 W. Francis (P6) lot. Signs provide instructions to pay parking via phone. There is a guest check in counter outside. We were greeted very warmly with smiles. Our reservation was confirmed and we were directed to the main dining area. Upon entering main dining area, we were greeted by our server, Alice. More smiles. We were seated quickly. Alice is a very personable, responsive, and extremely knowledgeable server. Answered all our specific menu questions. Provided excellent guidance. Very nice, cozy environment. Note: Room was cooler than expected. For seniors like me, be prepared. Loved the old school ambience. Everything that we ate was exceptionally delicious and aesthically presented. We started with the Shrimp and Grits appetizer. Wonderful start! Loved it. Our main courses were the Braised Wild Mushrooms with Orzo and the Seafood Baked in Parchment paper. Both were amazing! Exceptionally delicious! I left no evidence of my Seafood meal. We finished with the Pear Pound Cake dessert. Enjoyed every bite. I also enjoyed a 16 oz Wasserhund Porter. Food was reasonably priced. Totally satisfied with our first visit to Berret's. It was worth the drive to the Burg. Hats off to Alice and the staff. Exceptional service!
