(from Google)My pup has played with *hundreds* of other dogs in her lifetime - at every dog park in VA Beach, at Zoom Room, at Pups and Pints, greeting dogs on the trails throughout the region, and elsewhere - and without exception has gotten along with the other dogs and had fun. She loves people and other dogs of all sizes. She's sweet and friendly to a fault. But her first day at Cosmo's Corner they said she was aggressive, stiff, and had raised hackles - and was therefore a danger to the other dogs. The only variable here is Cosmo's. The ladies at the front desk were polite and friendly, but I can't help imagine what is going on in the back that would cause my girl to behave in a way that is inconsistent with every single experience she's had with other dogs in her 3 years of life. And I also wonder if they gave her access to water, because she RAN to her water bowl and drank for a full minute or two when we got home. With all of the good reviews here, I had high hopes for this being a fun, enriching experience for my girl, but instead I'm left frustrated, and concerned for the dog owners and dogs who patronize this facility. (If you look at my review history, you will see that I very rarely leave negative reviews for companies. I prefer to boost the really good businesses out there. But in this case, I think it's warranted)
We boarded our 60lb English cream golden retriever for a week. We had a great experience. Halo had a great time, was able to play, do training, get some grooming and had a blast! The people working at the counter were very pleasant and welcoming. The people picking up Halo and dropping him off were happy and engaged. We got good reports, with videos that had great information. The price was reasonable.
Cosmos Corner clearly has many wonderful qualities, and their numerous positive reviews show how much care they put into creating a “home-away-from-home” environment for dogs. I truly appreciate their commitment to providing a safe and welcoming space. At the same time, I wanted to share a gentle concern from the perspective of a pet parent. Not all dogs are the same—some experience separation anxiety, heightened stress, or are older and need extra comfort. For these pets, having something familiar like a favorite toy, a blanket, a piece of clothing with their owner’s scent, or any personal comfort item can make a tremendous difference in helping them feel secure while they’re away from home. Because Cosmos Corner aims to create a comforting and reassuring environment, I was surprised to learn that personal items from home aren’t allowed. For dogs who are already terrified or struggling with anxiety, being without anything familiar may make their stay more difficult than it needs to be. I completely understand that every facility has its own policies for safety and cleanliness, but I hope Cosmos Corner might consider allowing certain approved comfort items in the future. Even one small familiar object could make a big difference in a pet’s emotional well-being during their stay. Thank you for all the care you provide, and for considering this feedback.
We’ve been boarding our dog with Cosmos for over 2 years now. They are the absolute best! Every staff member we have interacted with is professional and always happy to see our dog when we arrive. The facility is clean and their add on offerings are really nice — like training sessions and the calming package. Our dog always arrives and returns home happy (and us too!!).
Oslo always has the BEST day at Cosmo’s! They keep a close eye on all the pups (they have even let me know when he’s had a weird poop - he’s always been fine, but I appreciate their attention to the pups!). I love being able to drop him off in the morning and know he’s in the best hands. I can’t rave enough about their staff. They help Oslo with his manners, too. :)
