(from Google)Anna with Paws for Thought is truly amazing. We first were introduced when I got my Bernedoodle puppy, Cornelius, in the summer of 2024. Cornelius was 5 months old when he joined me in the city and he presented with some pretty serious urban anxiety. He naturally is a very sensitive and shy boy so the lively, crowded, and loud East Village / Union Square neighborhood that I live in turned into a nightmare for my little bud (and for me because I struggled to do basic things with him like walks as he would pancake in fear). Anna really helped to guide me in how to help manage the urban anxiety and then worked on training tactics for confidence building and enrichment. I’ve been working with Anna for nearly two years now and she’s been such a critical resource around Cornelius’ development from basic manners, to how to handle his humping era (in the months before his neuter), to locking down important skills like recall etc. She’s also recommended great group classes to help work on my dog’s reactivity, whether they are lead by herself or by Erin (another wonderful trainer!). Both Anna and Erin use positive reinforcement and are wonderful in terms of their ability to work with all different types of dogs, even sensitive, nervous, and reactive pups like my little bud. I couldn’t recommend them both enough!
We did tricks class for 5ish weeks with our golden and it was such a blast! The trainers were great and adapted the class to each pups level (class only had 2 other dogs) and broke the steps down super easily so you can learn how to teach your dog yourself. We left each session feeling like we knew what to do at home to practice. We will def do another class in the future!! Thank you so much Anna!
Maddie is incredible! She is super patient with all of our questions and gave great recommendation when it came to our anxious 4 year old mini dachshund. She was open to being on emails with our behavioral vet and work in tandem to make Millie as successful as she can be in our home. I would highly recommend working with Paws for Thought Dog Training and can't say enough about Maddie!
Maddie is highly professional and knowledgeable. She is easy to interact with, worked well with my dog, provided clear recommendations, and a follow up email after each appointment summarizing what was covered. Highly recommended.
My two terriers were acting aggressively to other dogs that they would encounter on their walks. In just one session, Maddie gave me strategies and tools to help me (help my dogs) start to redress this behavior. She always approaches issues with pets from a perspective of kindness and understanding— educating the owner on what the dog may be feeling that is fueling their behavior. I learn so much just by watching and listening to how she interacts with my dogs - lots of positive reinforcement and a gentle tone to her voice. Whenever I finish a session with Maddie, I come away from it knowing that I am a better and more responsible dog owner.
