Nice hike located nearby with a dedicated parking lot. The trail is pretty steep for about 1/2 a mile and then levels out more. You will want sturdy shoes because there are lots of rocks on the trail. The views are spectacular at the top.

The initial hike up is pretty tough if you are a casual hiker. Once at the top we did a loop and got to see Fat Man's Pass (one in our group didn't pass!) and the natural tunnel. Felt like I was in a Western!

Mormon Trailhead on South Mountain is easily one of my favorite places in Phoenix to get outside. The trail is well-marked, scenic, and offers a great mix of challenge and reward — especially once you start gaining elevation and the views open up over the city. Our sunrise hikes are unbeatable, and it’s such a great spot for photos. The trailhead area is clean and well-maintained, and I appreciate that it’s easy to access and has enough space to get started without feeling crowded right away. Whether you’re out for a quick hike, training for something tougher, or just wanting some fresh air and desert scenery, this is a perfect spot. You’ll see beautiful rock formations, classic Sonoran plants, and plenty of chances to stop and take it all in. If you’re visiting Phoenix or just looking for a solid local hike, Mormon Trailhead is a must. You’ll leave feeling refreshed and accomplished!

This place is beautiful. I loved the short scenic hike. When I come back to visit daughter, I'll be hiking a lot more next visit to Phoenix.

Beautiful trail!!! Crazy how over time rain and peoples travels have turned the stones into stairs, wish they were escalators, but the trail goes in levels so if you want to push yourself you can go high n higher and turn around when your good. Great view into the valley and the surroundings of the area. Some wild life, put planes flying in constantly, and saw some cool lightning storms off in the distance.
