Fish Next Door and Co LLC

Brian agreed to sell two Clownfish,1 pink Skunk Clownfish, one Seahare slug, 15 hermit crabs, 1 large turbo snail and 1 Lawnmower Blenny for me back in September. He says he only was able to sell the large turbo snail. After checking in with him several times over the last few months he then tells me he will buy everything for $60! I was taken a back by this offer and asked for $128, that would have been less than half that I paid for all. He absolutely refused to go above the $60. I had no choice but to accept his offer. I trusted what Brian was telling me. My advice is do not ask Brian to do the same for you.

Husband and I frequently make the drive from Temple to Killeen specifically to visit Fish Next Door. We love this "mom and pop" shop, Brian the owner is awesome, very friendly, knowledgeable and caring. I've had fish for over 30 years and used to work in pet retail for both the Co and Smart. I hate going to chains where the employees usually know nothing and are rude. This shop is always changing and getting better and better, used to only have saltwater, but now he expanded to freshwater and has a ton of beautiful freshwater plants. People who aren't experienced can get confused like the prior comment about aiptasia. What they dont understand is YES the store has aiptasia (often considered a pest) in certain tanks because there are animals that eat them as part of their diet like peppermint shrimp, butterfly and file fish. Same goes with bristleworms, also have a purpose as food for other fish...you want them to starve? The stores fish are healthy, Brian is an honest man who truly cares about the inhabitants in his store. If you're confused about why not alot of freshwater fish, its because he's smart and not overloading the system which is relatively new and still getting the biological filtration uo to handle more. People dont see that part, its not like the box stores where they cram a ton of fish in each tank and you see tons of dead floaters all the time because of it. In regard to fish acclimation to new tank remember slow and steady. Don't just chunk them into your new tank. Especially with saltwater you need to be wary of wavemakers or extra pumps circulating the water. I'm again addressing the prior comment, you need to think ahead and plan to calm the water to be more like the environment it came from. Transferring fish is very stressful, even more with saltwater where they are trying to acclimated to different salinity level which often disorientates them. So getting sucked up to a pump is something that can happen which can cause internal damage to the fish resulting in death. Wavemakers are deathtraps, we once had an anemone that literally the day we put it in the tank decided to cross the tank and get itself sucked into it. I had to tear the mechanism apart to free the anemone who survived but was mangled and split into 2 parts. I said he obviously had a death wish or wanted to divide himself without having to wait very long. Long story short below is a pic of our saltwater tank. We've been customers of Fish Next Door for over a year now and will keep coming back because of Brian. The fact that he knows what he's doing, is always willing to talk to customers and cares will always keep us making the drive no doubt for years to come. I recently purchased a few corals from this store, which were in decent shape. However, I also acquired a pair of clownfish that unfortunately did not fare well. Despite setting the wavemaker to its lowest setting on the first day, one of the clownfish repeatedly got stuck on it three times and appeared lethargic and had no appetite. Tragically, it did not survive past the next day. In contrast, the second clownfish is thriving, along with all the other inhabitants. I raised my concerns with the owner, who informed me of the store's policy of no guarantees on marine fish. While I understand policies vary, the fish sold should be reasonably healthy and be able to tolerate low currents. This particular clownfish was clearly unwell from the start. My message to the owner was respectful and expressed my disappointment, suggesting the possibility of a partial credit or discount for a replacement. Surprisingly, his response was "too easy", which was both dismissive and confusing. I followed up, seeking clarification, but received the same response again. This interaction left me disappointed. As someone who values local businesses and wants to support them, I had hoped for better customer service. Unfortunately, the owner's response came across as immature, incoherent, and did not address my concerns. With so few options in Killeen, I genuinely wanted to have a positive experience with this store, to the point I ignored the certain red flags like the aiptasia. I'm going to take this loss as a learning experience. Moving forward, I'll consider this when making future purchases.

Great Local Shop. Good variety of corals and fish as well as dry goods. Definitely recommend stopping by and checking out the selection! Shop owner is very knowledgeable and will assist with any need you may have for your aquarium
