I Took My Dog to the Canine Sperm Bank and Now He Won’t Stop Winking at Me I don’t even know how to begin this, but here we go: I brought my dog to the International Canine Sperm Bank, and I’m fairly certain he thinks he runs the place now. He walked in a dog. He left a legend. The staff were professional, which is impressive considering the fact that they spend their day collecting canine splooge for future generations. I don’t know what kind of vet school leads to that career path, but bless 'em—they were confident, kind, and weirdly enthusiastic about my dog’s… genetic payload. They took him to a back room and I swear to God, when he came out ten minutes later, he had the swagger of a man who just signed a major league contract and got a massage from a Swedish supermodel. He wouldn’t make eye contact with me. Too much pride. Or shame. Or both. Now his DNA is frozen in liquid nitrogen like he’s some kind of furry Jurassic Park startup. I have official paperwork that says my dog’s "sample quality" is "excellent." I framed it. Long story short: ✅ They took great care of him ✅ He got his rocks off ✅ I paid money to make that happen ✅ He’s now unbearable to live with because he knows he’s technically a sire If you want your dog to become a genetically immortal alpha who stares into the distance like he’s remembering "the room," take him here. Would absolutely let them fondle my dog again.
We have worked with them three times and had healthy litters of 6-9 each time. Appreciate that they offer TCI as it is so much easier on the dam. Very friendly and professional staff!
I had semen shipped from ICSB to Southern California. They analyzed the semen as having 90% motility (which, frankly, is not likely) with 246mil sperm. The shipment arrived almost completely dead (30mil at 16% motility). Normally, I might think this was an issue with the stud, but the next day I had a second shipment collected and packed by Dr. Lopate at another facility. The ENTIRE collection survived. When the stud owner relayed our experience at ICSB to Dr. Lopate, she was not in the least surprised. Apparently, ICSB is known for their subpar services. When I contacted ICSB for a refund, they were dismissive and continuously claimed things that were incorrect, even going as far as to argue with machine-generated analysis (double checked by my board certified therio) of both collections. They insist that this was a clean out collection, and that urine in the semen contributed to the loss. Both are likely true. However, the fact that less than 30mil sperm survived at a 16% motility rate (whereas 730 mil at a 64% rate survived from Lopate) speaks to their incompetence, as well as their refusal to take any responsibility for it. Their contract states that they are not responsible for loss of semen quality, which I understand. It is understandable that there would be some loss. However, from my story and attached photos, I think it’s clear that they are not a reliable service and at least in my case, they were fully responsible. I will never use them again, and will advise every breeder I know to stay away.
Was more than disappointed in the service I received at ICSB. The staff was rude and more concerned about collecting my credit card info than in collecting my already proven stud dog. The two staff members who attempted to collect him seemed rushed and non-attentive to his needs. I will not be returning and would encourage others to go elsewhere!
