Upper Tampa Bay TrailHead- Lutz Lake

Explored the "opposite" direction than I normally do. Met w the Suncoast trail and walked that for about a mile or so. They need a port a potty out there.

Great area for hiking. There are three sets of connecting trail systems, designated by orange, blue, and white trail blazes. I prefer to start by parking over in the community park across the street from Gunn Highway. Parking is free there, and it's only about 1/4 mile walk along the paved trail until you hit the first (orange) hiking trailhead. From there, it's pretty easy to piece together anywhere from a 2-10 mile looped hike, really depending on how far you want to go. Be aware that during the rainy season, the back section of the hiking trails become easily flooded, and will stay that way for quite some time, weeks to a month at times... Other than that, it's one of the few remaining places in West Tampa where you can go for a meaningful hike and get away from the crowds. Bring water, as there is only fresh water at the main trailhead, or at the section near Van Dyke and Gunn Highway.

Very wide and smooth paved trail. Lots of bikers. We walked. Had to pay $2 to park, but the park ranger was there actively working on the grass. Definitely well maintained. The bathrooms were also clean.

This trail has both paved and natural sections. The natural sections start out in full sun but do have some shaded areas. Bring lots of water. Parking is $2 per vehicle for the whole day. There are some pretty views, but it’s mostly typical Florida vegetation. I did see a tortoise today.

I love this trail I appreciate that I live so near over the years I've found Wild Flowers through the hiking & paved trails. I also love being able to feel and see Nature I suggest to bring a snack, Sunscreen, Hat and Definitely have plenty of water i personally have a water backpack and most of the time I go in the Fall - Winter - time since it so hot most of the year. I usually go through October - March.
