Aldermans Ford Nature Preserve

Great primitive trail off turkey creek, nice spots to sot and listen to the water rush by. DO NOT LITTER!

A truly special place in Florida. Each time I visit a Florida park or preserve I think to myself it couldn’t get much more beautiful, and every time it does, this place was five stars and beyond. I spent the day at Alderman’s Ford Park and could have stayed for hours. The energy here feels deeply rooted in community and care, with thoughtfully designed trails, both paved and unpaved, that invite everyone to experience the beauty of the land. The park offers accessible paved paths and boardwalks, making it easy for all visitors to enjoy the landscape. A peaceful 1.8-mile loop and more winds through the area, along with additional red and blue trails that follow the river more closely. Lovely picnic spots and pavilions, playground, and bathrooms, strategically located throughout the park perfectly clean and beautiful. Walking alongside the Alafia River, you move through a stunning mix of ecosystems—elevated boardwalk views over the river, and shaded hardwood hammocks filled with towering oaks, gum trees, cypress, cedar, and palms. The diversity of trees and the height of the canopy create a feeling of being held within the forest family. What stood out most was the sense of connection—to nature, to history, and to community. You’ll notice local signage along the main roads reflecting efforts like “Save Rural Lithia,” a reminder of how important it is to protect places like this. Spaces like Alderman’s Ford help preserve the true soul of Florida—where people can gather, slow down, and reconnect with the natural world. A beautiful and grounding experience. I’ll definitely be back.

This is a very open hiking area so beware of the sun. There are many side trails though that do go off into the wooded area that I didn't take. It was late in the day and didn't want to lose daylight, but I will explore more next time. There is a nice wooded trail that takes you straight to the river that was gorgeous and peaceful. Saw lots of birds and some cute armadillos. There are no bathrooms or maps on the board. There is some graffiti on it however. The trail is very well marked though and you don't actually need the map if you stick to the main path. This is not the same as Aldermans Ford Conservation park, so be aware.

Very peaceful little hiking spot. Mostly flat and open, though it's a little more challenging on the yellow trail. Some nice views and wildlife.

What a wonderful place to take a walk. The paved pathway is well maintained and most of it is shaded. There is a dirt trail that you can take which brings you back to the paved pathway and this was the best part since it’s much quieter. Lots of gators, turtles and of course, great egrets to be spotted.
