(from Google)After years of wanting to visit this park, this camping weekend did not disappoint! First, the natural beauty of the canyon is unrivaled by any other park I have visited in Texas. Unfortunately, there are some that are not as appreciative of this beauty and lack respect for the lands. Leaving behind the trash they brought in. That being said, the park staff are amazing at keeping the grounds and facilities as clean as possible, all the while maintaining the friendliest of attitudes, and I am grateful for all they do. Pets are allowed in the park, but unfortunately, mine did not deal well with the unfamiliar wildlife, cactuses, and overwhelming heat. While I do intend to return, they will not. RV site 31 is awesome! The pad was a little thinner than I am used to, but any standard 8’ wide will fit comfortably. 5 stars is not adequate for this park, and should definitely be one of the top five places to visit in Texas!
I love this place. Dogs are welcome and the scenery is amazing! The mile or so hike in to North Prong campsite is amazing. My dog hiked it with no issues, and he is an old man 😊 No alarm needed...the coyotes will gladly help you there. Some lucky people found there way up to the top for a nice view (in the pictures)! Saw the bison on the way out. Great visit...highly recommend!
This is the place to see Buffalo. When we first drove in they were far away, and I thought will never see them except through a camera. Then we turn to corner and there was a herd right in front of us! It was awesome! They are beautiful animals. We also saw deer and prairie dogs. The views of the canyon are spectacular. Well worth the trip
Absolutely stunning Texas State Park! My friends and I had so much fun camping, hiking, and just soaking it in. There is so much wildlife in the park, including bison, prairie dogs, and more. Just be sure to respect the wildlife and keep your distance. There are some legitimate moderate/challenging hikes in this park, which made for some beautiful views. There are some shorter, easier hikes that still offer good views as well. I've been to over 30 Texas State Parks, and this one is in my top three favorites. A must see, especially if you like canyons and/or deserts.
Caprock Canyons State Park is a total gem. Wide-open canyons, dramatic red rock, and a kind of quiet that makes you take a deeper breath without even trying. The trails are well-marked, and the hikes are gorgeous without feeling packed. What we loved most is how wild and “real” the park feels. Keep your eyes open and you’ll see plenty of wildlife. Sunrise and sunset are next-level out here, and the night sky is absolutely incredible. The highlight for us was definitely the animals. We saw mule deer, bison, and prairie dogs for sure, and it made the whole experience feel extra special. If you’re road-tripping through Texas, Caprock Canyons is 100% worth the stop.
