(from Google)Well stocked store with friendly personnel. Clerks were extremely helpful when I needed suggestions on what to buy to keep my puppy from chewing on the wall. One clerk even told me about a coupon promotion I had no idea about. Will definitely go back there again.
I had been in the store a few days before and the girl at the front answered my questions with honest answers followed by advice on what I should buy. I returned to follow her advice and buy the food she recommended. She was there again and walked me back to the isle and helped me pick out the food. She then had me sign up for the rewards card.. I was super impressed with her and will go back to the store because of her great customer service!!
Every time we shop here the customer service reps are rude. They rarely acknowledge you when you step to the register...up to and including my experience with Christine last night. I entered the store at about 7:50 to pick up dog food, cat food, and litter. i had my kids with me, so we decided to peek at the critters for a bit before gathering our goods. I was approached at 8:02 by an older female associate and asked if I needed help. I said no, thank you. She responded rudely with "Because we're closed". I apologized repeatedly, to which she didn't respond, but turned and walked away. I immediately began gathering my purchases. I was then approached by ANOTHER associate (Christine), who asked if I needed help finding anything. I responded "No thank you. Almost done. Sorry, I didn't realize you were closing"...which she also ignored. I was then followed around the store while gathering the remaining 2 items. Mind you, this is now only 3 minutes later...I was not dawdling...and I was spending +$150. When I placed my items on the counter Christine did not acknowledge me or speak until to ask if I wanted my receipt. I then walked out the door, past the first woman who approached us, who was speaking loudly and saying "Good night. Thanks for stopping by. Have a good one." All the right words...but with a tone that could cut glass it was so cold...not to mention she was practically yelling and we were mere inches away from her. Again...this all took them about 6 minutes past closing (which they didn't announce when I entered the store or over a PA system, as is customary when a store is preparing to close). I really had no idea that the store was closing! When this location first opened, the customer service was exceptional. That is no longer the case. None of their staff is friendly or supportive. As mentioned, when I enter their store I am dropping over $100 each time. I will not be back. They have lost a customer. I'd rather drive a greater distance to spend my money where the employees have better attitudes.
Store associate, Tyler, was extremely helpful and answered my questions regarding quality food within my budget for my two rescued cats. I needed wet food to administer medication and was able to find an amazing sale! Signed me up and/or activated my rewards program since previous cashier during my first visit just handed me the rewards card and called it a day. Therefore, my previous experience was not as pleasant but still a 8/10! This most recent visit was a 12 out of 10! Yes, it was THAT good. I am in animal rescue business and I could tell that the cashier cares for animals and is just not in it for a paycheck.
I used to go to the Palm Harbor Petco on Curlew and I was ,truthfully, always satisfied with my experience. Recently I moved to Tarpon and I’ve never been more disappointed to go to a Petco. I can’t think of a single experience where I left and I wasn’t disgruntled with the service. I’m made to feel like a burden, and as someone who struggles with anxiety, this makes it pretty hard to want to go inside and feel like I’m making someone go out of their way to help me. I understand that retail can be a stressful job, but I’d at least appreciate a “how are you?” This particular experience, today, I went in to return a bag of dog food that made my dogs very very sick after purchasing it yesterday. It’s the same food they’ve eaten for over a year so this was surprising. I realized it was nearing its expiration date, only three days away, so I assumed that may be the culprit. When I approached the manager, the first thing she said was “put it on the counter”. Then continued what she was doing. I told her the situation and she said “okay go grab another bag” then walked away. There was zero concern for my dogs or the fact that there may be other bags with the same issue. I grabbed another bag and realized it was also expiring in a few days. I told another employee and she said to just leave it and she’ll tell the manager. She was helpful in the sense she did the exchange, but she also seemed like she just didn’t want to be there. I did find a bag that wasn’t nearing expiration and exchanged it. Previous to today, I took my son to get a fish and the lady that helped us, I don’t remember her name, was very obviously disgruntled by the fact she had to help me. I even told her to just forget it, i don’t need the fish. She called another employee over to help her, and that one was cussing under her breath, although she did apologize after seeing a three year old standing behind her. I’m not sure if this location is just under staffed, under payed or poorly managed, but it’s just not working. I’ve shopped at Petco for years because I love the rewards program, but Palm harbor is too far to drive when there’s other pet stores around. I believe this will be my last time shopping at Petco. I’m incredibly disappointed but there’s no reason I should feel anxious to go into a pet store. Edit: update, 6 months later this place is still miserable. Staff avoid you. Very rude when you talk to them. You are a nuisance to them. Corporate needs to send someone out to evaluate this place. Idk what it is that’s making them so upset but everyone there seems like they hate it and it shows.
