The Fredericksburg SPCA is a wonderful non profit organization focused on helping the community through fosters, rescues, and surrenders. The shelter survives on donations and volunteers, but mostly the tender care each of the staff members has for each furry resident. The facility is remarkably clean compared to some shelters I have visited and the have a rigorous sanitation policy. Yes, you may get a whiff of urine, but it is challenging to not have that smell at any facility. Remember, these furry companions are not their home where they are used too and are sometimes scared and unsure. I highly recommend anyone who has a few spare hours a month to go through the one hour orientation and perhaps volunteer an hour or two a month. Yes, you can eventually walk the pups after a several hours of volunteership, but other chores also need to be performed such as washing linens, cleaning floors and pens, organizing donations, and sanitizing dinner bowls. The kitty sanctuary is one of the best I have seen.

Clean & friendly. Very helpful and i found my new fur baby! Jack aka Rooster is quite happy and wants his SPCA groupies to know he appreciates all their care, love and support while he was in their shelter.

Came in to originally look at cats that were FIV positive for our cat to have a buddy. Unfortunately they didn’t have any that were FIV positive in the shelter. We became interested in one dog and were originally going to adopt her but we decided to take a look around one last time to make sure we were making the right decision. We looked and there was one puppy left and we fell in love immediately. We ended up adopting a 2 month old puppy named Leia which we renamed Ellie. They made the adoption process so easy and everyone is very welcoming. Thank you for helping us find our perfect dog!

I am very pleased with the service there. Everyone was very patient, very kind and explained everything well. I am so grateful i was able to get my baby neutered at a rate that fit my budget. I would absolutely make that 30 min trip regularly from Woodbridge if they did everything else. Definitely recommend :)

Great place. The staff really care about the animals and finding them forever homes. I love the foster program! It's so rewarding to help the dogs and kittens learn to trust and bond with people. It's such a great thing to try if you're unsure about how a pet would fit into your life. Or the adventure paws program! I love this idea of taking a doggo out for a walk and time away from the shelter. I think sometimes people are biased that shelter dogs have problems and thats why they're there, and its such an untruth! I love being able to change people's minds about how good a dog from the shelter can be. If you're reading this review you should just put the phone down and go to the shelter and be with a cat or dog instead. Ok, now go!
