Is a great park for your dogs and they can play and run all they want

Beautiful and well-maintained dog park with open space, turf areas, shaded seating, a relaxing sitting area overlooking the lake, and convenient dog drinking station. A wonderful place for dogs and owners to enjoy the Florida outdoors and one of the many great lifestyle amenities in the Venice/Wellen Park area. 🐾🌴

Nice park

This is a new dog park in downtown Wellen Park. It overlooks the lake and I feel bad not to give it a higher rating, but there are a few issues with its design. It is about the only park I have seen without separate sections for large and small dogs. This is almost a guarantee that some dogs will be hurt, especially since so many people promptly get on their phone and don't watch their dog. The park has built-in agility course features such as large blocks that can't be moved. When dogs are playing a d running at top speeds running into these is going to be a danger. Lastly they use astro turf instead of grass. It looks nice now but besides getting extremely hot for dog paws in the summer it requires constant upkeep with spraying to keep it sanitary. Simply using the provided doggy bags isn't enough. I wish my review was more positive, I'm happy it's here, but hopefully they'll make some changes in the future that take the reality of what dogs need in a dog park into consideration.
