Fox Lake Animal Hospital.

I cannot, in good conscience, recommended this vet clinic. We brought our dog, Harley, here to have a lump on his butt looked at. He was acting completely normal at this point and was eating normally. Fox Lake scheduled surgery for him to remove the lump, without even doing bloodwork first to make sure everything was alright with him. Surgery day comes, he’s operated on and they told me they weren’t going to send the lump to be biopsied because they didn’t think it was cancerous. Fast forward a few days and Harley stops eating. I bring him back to Fox Lake and they give me fluids, without doing an ultrasound or anything, and tell us he has kidney disease. The next day, he still wasn’t eating and was significantly weaker, so we brought him to an emergency vet. 3 agonizing days and thousands of dollars later, we decided to euthanize Harley peacefully at home. The emergency vet told us that he had kidney disease, a lump on his adrenal gland, and a bile duct obstruction. I understand that low-cost vet clinics are necessary, especially in this economic climate, and that Harley already had a cancerous tumor growing before coming to Fox Lake, but I feel as though Fox Lake should’ve taken more precautions before operating on a 12.5 year old dog. Rest in peace, Harley. We love you.

My Aussie had a tooth extraction, skin tag removal, teeth cleaning and polishing done today. Wonderful experience is an understatement. Very professional staff. Everyone is kind and caring. It’s hard to find trustworthy vet in this day and age, so this experience was truly refreshing and extremely affordable. Many thanks to the entire office - they are some very hard working people! 🩶🤍🩶

Incredible experience. Ignore the 4.2 stars the complaints are all about long wait times and not being able to get through to the front desk which is ridiculous. These folks work incredibly hard and the place is always packed because their prices beat every vet within hours of driving. This place specializes in surgeries and legitimate emergencies and take pets in priority based on that so of course a mild issue will have a longer wait time. Our mid aged beagle had bladder stones which we were in the process of scheduling surgery for but one morning she wouldn't urinate and we knew it was likely a blockage. We called ahead and told them we'd be there in about 2 hours since we live up in wisconsin and raced down there for emergency surgery. The wait time when we got there was around 30 minutes to an hour with a quick discussion and exam before she was taken in for surgery. Surgery went smoothly and we brought our dog home that evening picking her up around 6 pm. From the emails and calls we had with them to the after surgery review, the service was great and they patiently answered all of our questions and even got us a Rx and food for her special diet to control the bladder stones moving forward. We had a follow up visit to remove the stitches as they were bothering our dog as she has sensitive skin. Special thanks for Dr. Rudawski and Dr. Courtney for all of their hard work, we cannot thank them enough for saving our dogs life.

We Took Our 1.5-Year-Old Kitten There And Arrived At 9:05 A.M., About 5 Minutes After They Opened. I Walked In And Signed In Almost Immediately. It Was Sometime After 2:30 P.M. Before We Actually Got Into A Room, Where We Waited Another 10–15 Minutes To Be Seen. During The Wait, I Went To Something Fishy In Fox Lake To Get A Harness And Leash For Our Kitten, Who Had Never Been Outside Since We Rescued Her. The Folks At Something Fishy Were Awesome. 🫶 Thank You So Much For Your Help And Kindness With Her. 😎 After Having Her In A Carrier For Over 3 1/2 Hours, We Thought The Harness And Leash Might Give Her A Chance To Relieve Herself. We Didn’t Want To Go Back Home Because We Never Really Had A Set Time For When We Would Be Seen. They Also Have A Policy That When Your Name Comes Up On The Waiting List, You Need To Return Very Quickly, Which Makes It Difficult To Leave The Area During Long Wait Times. I Used To Bring My Rottweilers Here Years Ago, And Your Pets Will Definitely Receive Quality Care. My Biggest Complaint Is That They Really Need Some Kind Of Appointment System — Like Pretty Much Any Other Vet’s Office. 🤔 If You Have A Noon Appointment And Don’t Get Seen Until 1:30, That’s Understandable. But Having To Stay Within A Few Minutes Of The Clinic For More Than 5 Hours Without A Scheduled Appointment Was Very Frustrating. Actually is reasonably priced , but overpriced when you think how much time you're giving up. Just My Thoughts.

Though its not always the most convenient due to not being appointment based... (you can literally be there all day 6+ hours) the doctors I feel like actually listen to ALL your concerns and are pretty thorough on exams. They make you feel like you can trust them. Fox Lake has performed two surgeries on my dog and has given very clear direction for aftercare and are there to answer my questions. They also are more reasonably priced than most or all animal vets or hospitals within a very wide area. I appreciate what they've done and helped with. I will continue using them when I can or need to. Sometimes convenient and ideal isn't always the best or what you have to work with, they have proven multiple times they're still worth it for us. Peanut appreciates how well they treat her. Thank you Fox Lake staff and Doctors!
