(from Google)One of my favorite local places to hike. There are enough people around that it's safe but not too crowded. Lots of different options if you're looking for a flat hike or some elevation.
This past weekend was my first time traversing up the Wind Cave Trail. We loved it so much, we went both Saturday and Sunday. However it was hotter than we anticipated on Saturday, and vowed to go back again the next day. Sunday was so much cooler and we also went earlier so most of our hike/climb was in the shade. What can I say about this hike. I don't even know if I would classify it as a hike as it's alot of tight maneuvering up and over boulders, and tight passageways. I'd rate this climb intermediate to advanced for beginners, but children and more athletic types should have no problem. Our reward was visiting the Wind Cave which is a natural, shallow cave at almost the top of the mountain. We got some really nice pictures up there and actually because there were so many switchbacks, there were a ton of great views along the way. Make sure you bring at least 32 oz of water each person. Be careful of bees at the cave though, although we didn't experience any of them. Apparently bees in AZ are Afracanized which are the most dangerous. Also it's a good idea to bring extra sun block to reapply midway through your climb. Lots of Saguaro to see as well as other cacti like Cholla. Also, apparently we could have gone higher, though it is posted, Climb at your own risk. But many people went to the peak and said it was worth it. So that will definitely be on our next excursion. Usery Mountain Park is huge and there are many trails and camping available as well as picnic areas. I strongly suggest you hike up to Wind Cave, you won't regret it. CAMERA TIP: Use your Pano setting on your phones to get more of the mountain in your images.
Great place to go for a walk or ride a bike. Long trails with not too much elevation change for an easier stroll through the desert. But please be careful, as I did run into one of the locals. A rattlesnake over 3 feet long was just minding his own business crossing the path and I did the same. Respect nature and you'll live a happier life.
Great walking trails. I had a stroke; my balance is okay, no hills, but it is a beautiful walk in the desert.
It was a good place to either walk or bike, had plenty of views and was very relaxing. Would recommend for beginners, not sure about veterans as it was fairly easy.
