(from Google)A fairly easy trail leads up to a fun cave. Go early or bring a hat and sunscreen because there’s no shade on the trail itself.
Fun and easy trail, went with the girls I take care of and all of them were able to finish it. Definitely go early so that the sun doesn’t kill you and bring water 💧 We took our lunch and ate in a different spot, the girls really enjoyed it🫶🏼
Did Aztec Cave Trail on a Wednesday afternoon in April. Started from the trailhead at 12:30pm and was back in 45 minutes. You can see the caves right as you get on the trail. They're alright, not too deep. The trail starts out very rocky, and is also tough and slippery at the end. Total elevation gain came to slightly less than 600 feet in 1.4 miles roundtrip.
This is a great escape on a cool morning. I got a chance to do this on 18 APR with my daughter. Recommend doing this with kids 10+ only because of the potential slip of the rocks/pebbles in some cases at certain areas, but otherwise, this mile walk from the parking lot to the cave takes more than half an hour. Recommend bringing a backpack to shed layers, water source, snacks, and enjoy the view. There were some folks that walked with their dogs (leashed), some runners, and other hikers. Have fun.
First time exploring Franklin Mountain State Park back in 2022, first hike I did in El Paso. A moderate not to hard hike to the caves. Once you made it to the top, enjoy viewing the cave from the outskirts so worth it. Not a long hike and can be done little under two hours. Probably one of the main recommendation hike at this state park by chance since the staff told me to hike this spot. Overall took some pictures and can’t complain how unique this cave is 👍 🤙
