I recently embarked on what was supposed to be a brief excursion to the Munger Trail trailhead in Duluth, but I was in for a delightful surprise. The trail presented an absolute vast abundance of fungi, turning my short trip into a 4-hour adventure of foraging! As I ventured further down the trail, I was greeted by a rich variety of mushrooms, each turn unveiling new kinds to discover. It felt like a treasure hunt, with nature generously offering its bounty at every step. The sheer diversity and abundance easily made up for the sparse mushroom sightings throughout the summer. The trail itself was a haven of natural beauty, with scenic vistas accompanying me as I delved deeper into my foraging journey. It was not just a trail, but a gateway to the rich and diverse fungal flora of the region. This unexpected journey was nothing short of amazing. The Munger Trail has proven to be a forager's paradise, offering an experience that is both enriching and mesmerizing. One visit here has compensated for the entire summer's lack of mushroom foraging opportunities. I highly recommend this trail to fellow foragers and nature enthusiasts. It's not just a trail, it's an experience that reconnects you with the bountiful nature that Minnesota has to offer.

Biked a great portion of the trail, great for all (including dogs). Many miles, lots of scenic views & great backdrops, exposed rock & paved - so smooth even for you rollerbladers. Many split-off trails from the main if you desire less groomed trails or various workouts. Runs through a few parks including Jay Cook SP & over the rivers.
