(from Google)Let’s preface that this is the only animal hospital operating late night hours. If it weren’t for this place, many emergencies (including my own) would go unseen. With that said, my personal experience here was great, but by a leading factor. Rivers, who i spoke to on the phone and in person, was very helpful and reassuring. I felt like i could talk to her easily, she answered as many questions as i had with spirit. When i was getting worried and anxious from waiting, she took it upon herself to check on my baby. She was the highlight of my experience because of how insightful and understanding she was. Thank you Rivers and team for helping me and my baby.
We had gone there for unfortunately not good circumstances. Our boy Duke wasn’t doing too well, so we decided to take him in quickly. They were very helpful with everything we needed. Duke needed to be on a gurney and they brought it right out to our truck. They took such good care of him and even did after he had passed. We were so heartbroken but they explained everything so well to us that we were able to fully understand what was going on with him. We got him cremated and they gave him back to us in such a lovely urn with a beautiful note. I am very happy and grateful for the care that we have received with everything that had happened. We will definitely recommend them to our friends and family. Thank you again to the staff and doctors for taking such good care of our boy Duke. 🫶🏻🐾🐕
Phenomenal staff who deeply care about animals. I brought my heeler in to be seen last night after he had a seizure. He is a reactive and was initially scared, growling, anxious, and resistant.. which is stressful for both him and I. They used low-stress handling techniques, treats, calm movements, accommodations, and made intentional efforts to reduce his fear so they could make him comfortable while evaluating him. The result? My previously terrified dog plopped down in the vet techs lap on the floor for cuddles while he was being evaluated. They not only prioritized his comfort, they were also very thorough with his evaluation and treatment plan - treating him as if he were their own baby. Every single one of them. I watched this incredible staff run around all night tirelessly trying to triage, answer phones, and take care of every baby with utmost urgency, while also providing the most compassionate care to every animal and their owner. This practice has been a godsend to my family over the years and truly cares for every single animal who walks through that door. We hope to not have to come back, but if we ever do, I am 110% confident that my animals will receive the best care on the Grand Strand. Love, Kendra & Whiskey
Review of Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand I am compelled to share my disappointing experience with Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand, which I believe highlights a critical issue in the provision of veterinary care for our beloved pets. Recently, I faced an urgent situation with my Yorkie, who was screaming and coughing. In a state of panic, I reached out to the hospital seeking immediate help. Unfortunately, my experience was met with a stark emphasis on financial constraints rather than the compassion I hoped for in this critical moment. Upon calling, I was informed by the receptionist that the initial consultation would cost $170, which did not include any additional tests or treatments that might be necessary. Given my recent job loss, I expressed my concern about the fee, only to be told that they do not offer payment plans and that my pet would not be seen without upfront payment. It is incredibly disheartening to witness a veterinary establishment prioritize monetary policies over the well-being and urgent needs of animals. As pet owners, our pets are part of our families, and it is devastating when financial struggles dictate whether they can receive the care they desperately need. I urge Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand to reevaluate their policies and consider implementing compassionate solutions, such as sliding scale fees or emergency funds, to support pet owners in moments of crisis. Veterinary care should be accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances, especially when it concerns urgent health issues that could mean life or death for an animal. It is my hope that my experience will encourage the hospital to adopt a more compassionate approach that reflects a genuine love for animals, prioritizing their health and safety above strict financial considerations.
Was there when they open at 6pm 10-1-25. First there and only a few people all night. My cat was lethargic and possibly anemia we believed from fleas. At the very check in I was shocked and verbally asked them if it was really $170 to walk in and one of the women at the desk gave me the look. The other explained I could look into Care Credit and Scratch as payment options so I immediately started applying as they took my cat off to put her on oxygen. Then they sat my 16 yo and I in an exam room. 6:22-6:59 I did both me and my children's dad apps for Care Credit, Scratch and another that I was later informed they wouldn't take anyways. All denied. At 7:34 I'm given a tally for treatment. I didn't have that kind of money. Vet says its probably blood loss requiring transfusions and that she's bad and he recommends euthanasia. Not having the money to pay for a bill like that and them not allowing payment plans direct to the office, I seen no real options and I didn't want my baby to suffer bc she was an amazing emotional support and had healed my heart on other issues. Around 8:45 decided to do euthanasia. Then we came up on a new issue. I didn't have enough to have her cremated and/or get her ashes back. Money again. Almost 10pm they bring my deceased cat to us and said she passed. We didn't even get to say goodbye. Now they're wrapping up a dead cat and sending it with us in a cardboard box bc we didn't have the money for cremation. At home I had to try to hide it from my 8 year old daughter by putting the box into a tote on the front porch, with a light all night, monitoring all night to make sure that no wild animals would tear into the tote and spread the cat around for my daughter to wake up to see. Found a local vet in Georgetown who took my cat for less than this place wanted. Still couldn't afford her ashes but at least my daughter was spared from burying her kitty in a yard we will not be living on soon. From that experience, I have determined that vet offices and vet medicine needs some adjustments. Overall animal care isn't valued like it used to be vs the money. Thank you though, to the desk clerk that was kind, the young man who kept informing me, and the lady who made Moons paw print. Also they waived some of the oxygen charge. My bill was $200. A public apology to my kitty, MOON. I'm sorry I wasn't rich with money, but I was rich from your love. 😭❤️😺
