Went to get my dog checked out yesterday through a walk in appointment. Were attended to very quickly and my dog was taken care of in a great manner! The technician and Dr.Tortella were extremely communicative and made my dog feel very calm in a stressful situation. Will be the place I go from now on!

We have trusted our 3 pups to the care of Dr. Ishida and the Above & Beyond vet techs for 8 years, and have nothing but wonderful things to say! They are always very thorough and provide the cost (or a close estimate) up-front. They also provide an optional “paw plan”, that we have for each of our dogs and significantly reduces the cost of vet visits! I’ve never had pets enjoy their vet visits, but our pups LOVE going to the clinic! Dr. Ishida is one of the kindest vets that I’ve ever known and it is obvious that he cares about the animals in his care, a sentiment that is also evident in every one of the vet techs and staff members that works at the clinic. Dr. T has cared for our pups in emergencies and he, too, has always taken great care in ensuring that we have a clear path to recovery. I highly recommend Above & Beyond if you are looking for a Lubbock veterinarian!

I’ve been taking my dogs and cats to Above & Beyond for about twenty years. They are always friendly and caring and go out of their way to treat my furbabies like family. Even my giant reactive dog who doesn’t particularly cooperate with treatments and exams is treated with thoughtfulness, understanding, and care for his fear. I always know that my dogs & cats will receive the best care when they go in for their appointments and procedures at Above & Beyond.

I wrote a review several years ago, but I definitely have more to say now. Against all odds, today is Domino’s birthday and he is still alive. He would not be here without the staff at Above and Beyond. Domino has been to different vets in Lubbock, who would treat his symptoms without ever trying to find the source of his illness. For a few years, he’s been varying levels of sick. Other vets would give him the standard antibiotic, maybe an antiviral, and call it a day. While they knew he had a heart murmur, there was never any referral to a more experienced vet or any expression of concern. Other vets had assumed his respiratory problems must just be a feline herpesvirus flare up, and they’d do little to help—letting me know that it could also be a tumor in his nostril and little could be done. The previous vets never attempted any tests or offered further options. Domino had never been to Above and Beyond. Although I knew they were a wonderful clinic and always recommended them to others, I had perceived them as more expensive than other clinics. I decided to get their opinion after another vet’s treatment failed. Immediately, Dr. Ishida set up an appointment for Domino to see an internal medicine specialist for his heart. He was put on a stronger antibiotic to treat his infection, a heart medication for his heart disease, and a steroid to help with his allergies. A respiratory panel was sent out, and his anemia was mentioned for the first time ever. This anemia would end up worsening as time went on, and the staff did everything to find the cause and treat it. He was given different kinds of exams, different medications and vitamins, and even a blood transfusion. Despite their care and tireless efforts, it finally came to the point where all resources had been exhausted. Only a couple of days before his euthanasia appointment, Domino began rebounding. Right now, he is still recovering with the help of the staff at Above and Beyond. Throughout the process, not once did I doubt how much the staff cared for animals. As a cat owner, you might have experienced the way cats aren’t always treated as well as dogs are at some clinics. Other times, it will seem vets or other staff don’t have much interest in animals at all. That is never the case at Above and Beyond. You do not for a moment question the staff’s affinity for and respect toward animals. They treat you just as kindly. You are not pressured or shamed into situations that could potentially put you into a difficult situation financially. Throughout Domino’s treatment, I was asked on multiple occasions if it could be continued considering the high cost of some of the tests and procedures. Thankfully, I was in a place where it could be continued, but their kindness meant the world to me. I cannot express how thankful I am to the staff at Above and Beyond for giving me more time with my beloved family member, even if it might not be as much time as others have with theirs. A few additional comments: The one cat I had spayed at Above and Beyond recovered more easily and with less stress than any other cat I’ve had spayed. Despite the same cat having severe eye infections when I found her as a kitten, they recovered after being treated by them. They are much better with exotic pets than other vets I’ve encountered. While they can be more costly than some other vets, they will work to figure out why your pet is sick before it’s too late. This could also save you the cost of extra appointments with other vets stacking up.

I brought my cat in because she was losing weight and the vet and staff treated her with care and we are currently in the process of treating her hyperthyroidism diagnosis. I have been to other vets for simular issues, but this is the place that properly diagnosed my cat. This is our best experience by far.
