(from Google)Nice Trailside hardly any birds did see a nice dear but a little bit boring compared to other parts of the country for trail sides
This is a great place to catch the Salado Creek trail. The trail head is a short distance to the Phil Harberger Park, which has bathrooms and water stations. Unlike the Phil Harberger Park, there is always parking at Voelcker. If you head North along the trail towards Huebner, you will likely come across some wild life. There is also an overlook above Salado Creek green belt. It is located to the right just before the parking lot. You can normally see some squirrels below. The round trip distance North to Eisenhower Park along the trail is approximately 14 miles. The round trip distance South to Holbrook Park near Fort Sam Houston is about 26 miles. A shorter trip South would be McAllister Park, which is about 16 miles round trip. Finally, Blanco BBQ which is located by the park entrance is a great place to treat yourself after a long walk or bike ride.
Perfect morning for walking the inside Water Loop trail, 1.2 miles around. After the rain, it's only 72 degrees! Not too muddy, deer are out. You get to see the progress of the bridge that will connect the two parks.
Nice hiking paths. Plenty of shade trees along the trails. Pick nick tables and benches for rest stops. Guide signs and distance mileage along the paths. Went on Sunday and was not crowded and ample parking. In late afternoon good chance of seeing deer. If you are a nature lover this is a good place to visit!
Great place for a walk after dinner. We saw Wildlife as soon as we got out of the car. Lots of shade but be prepared for rolling terrain.
