Ogden Animal Hospital

My dog, Hercules, passed away. It is largely due to inappropriate care by Dr. Lemmon. A month ago, my dog was panting incessantly. Dr. Lemmon diagnosed him with anxiety and prescribed prozac. He also talked with me about my dog's weight. I put my dog on a diet, walked him, and gave him the prozac. The panting continued. Then he refused his kibble. One night, I got myself an ice cream and the dogs each a pup cup. Herc took one bite, pulled a face, and refused the ice cream. I thought - "A tooth! It's a dental problem." I took him back in. Herc had lost 7 lbs in one week. I was alarmed. I addressed it with Dr. Lemmon, and he said - "That's good. He needed to lose weight." I reiterated- "7 lbs in one week?" He insisted it was fine. He didn't think there was a dental issue, but had his dental tech look too. She pointed out a broken canine with the nerve exposed. They assumed it to be the problem. He prescribed pain meds and antibiotics. He didn't want to pull a canine and said the tooth would eventually smooth over. The panting stopped with the pain meds and he was feeling better. After some time, I reintroduced his kibble and reduced his pain meds. During this time, I had to pick up some meds from this office for my dogs. One dog was to take 3/4 of a pill and the other two took a whole pill. The staff had left a voicemail stating that the "capsules" were in. I asked the girl at the desk if they were capsules and she said yes. I explained one dog was to take 3/4 a pill and capsules would not work. She could not comprehend. I asked if a could get a separate prescription of 75 mg for her and she said, "I can't change what the doctor prescribed." I told her it wasn't a change. She didn't understand. The vet was not in, so I couldn't talk with him. I was frustrated. When I thought she finally understood and went to the back to get the pills, she did not return and the office manager came out and told me I was unkind to her staff. It was humiliating. I already dealt with the challenging interaction and then I was scolded by the office manager. Additionally, when I picked up the bottle of meds I was there to get, I realized the girl was wrong. They weren't capsules. They were the tablets that we needed. All that for nothing. So I paid for my dogs' medication, asked for copies of my pets' medical records, and swore to never go back. Hercules was doing better. After about a week of having him on reduced pain meds, I tried taking him off of them. I didn't give him the pain meds one night and he went downhill the next day. I gave him a full dose that afternoon. It did not help. He refused food and water that night, too. The next morning I called and got an emergency appt with another vet that day. By the time of the appt, he was unable to even walk. The other vet looked at his teeth and said that it definitely wasn't a dental issue. Then he did what Dr. Lemmon should have done in the first place, he ran bloodwork. It was not good. My dog had a 660 blood sugar. He had ketoacidosis. And he obviously had ketoacidosis for that whole month, at least, because he had pancreatitis and his kidneys were failing. I made the very difficult decision to let my dog go. Had Dr. Lemmon have run bloodwork in the first place, my dog would still be here. I paid hundreds of dollars to him to misdiagnose him. I'd have gladly paid him thousands to treat him appropriately. My dog had lost 20 lbs in that month. I thought it was diet and exercise. It was ketoacidosis. And, apparently, weight loss and panting are huge indicators of this. I hope this review reaches Dr. Lemmon and this feedback saves someone else's dog. Seems like common sense that if a dog is overweight and suffering for some reason, that bloodwork should be done. For reference, my name is Pam Kirkland. I am at fault for allowing my dog to get so overweight. But this doctor was paid and entrusted with my loved one's care and now he's gone. Anything to the contrary this office responds with is not true. Be cautious of who you trust your loved ones to. RIP, Hercules. 💔🐾

First, the services were fine and they seemed to genuinely care about my pup, which can’t be overlooked. However, I know that kind of care can be found at other clinics. The reason I’m giving such a low rating is because of the lack of transparency in cost, akin to cellphone providers. I needed a dental cleaning for my pup so I called to get an idea on cost. I was told it would be about $430, not including any extractions that might be needed. I also asked if the price included anesthesia and was told it did. I thought that sounded reasonable so I scheduled the appointment. After checking my pup in, they started going over additional costs before the procedure, and the price for everything had gone up to $900+. After the procedure it was over $1100. Yes, I could have stopped the process and brought my pup home after learning about the additional costs, but at that point we were there and I really didn’t know if that’s a reasonable cost. What I do know is I felt swindled after scheduling the appointment only to learn all about the extra things that should be done for the dental procedure. If I had been told everything up front, and that it would likely cost over $1100 I might still have done it and been happy with it. But because they quoted only part of the procedure cost, it feels like they just wanted me in the door to put me in a situation where it’s easier just to accept the additional cost rather than leave. We will be looking elsewhere for our veterinary needs from now on.

First time visiting. NOT impressed. There is no privacy to the exam rooms at all!!! They have an open ceiling between the exam rooms so you hear everything happening in adjacent rooms. I was not prepared to listen to a poor family say their final good byes to their dog. I will never be returning to this place. Thanks for the ptsd flashbacks ogden animal hospital. I suggest you do a remodel or get a new building entirely.

Steve Lemmon is a very caring, fun-loving, knowledgeable, smart, DEMI GOD! He cares so much about his fur-baby patients and their parents. Oh...did I mention cool too!!! We have been going here for years and I will not go to anyone else. Hopefully he won't retire! I absolutely adore you Steve! And thank you for everything!

Went there with my two senior cats to get their annual checkup done. It was our first time visiting. Unfortunately both of my cats chose to be on their absolute worst behavior. The staff took it in stride and still treated them with the utmost kindness and gentle respect. Will be going back.
