Central Texas Veterinary Speciality and Emergency Hospital- Round Rock

I’m so pleased with the Rehab department. My dog has going through rehabilitation after a herniated disc surgery and the technician Nichole is simply amazing. She’s the one who works directly with my pet making sure that she’s safe, happy and getting her exercises done properly. Dr Sanudo is the one responsible for the department and I can’t be more grateful for her and her team for the great work they have put into my little princess.

It’s been quite awhile since I took my dog here but every time it crosses my mind I get more frustrated and I think I should share it. My dog was experiencing what to me initially looked like constipation, we took him to our regular vet where they got a stool sample and asked us to collect a urine sample. I was trying to collect the sample and that’s when I realized, he couldn’t produce a stream of urine, only small, obviously painful, leaks. At that point it was 11pm. So I got my mom and we both took him to this emergency vet, we had checked in before 12am. They wanted to take him back to a room but due to his anxiety they let us go back with him. I think this is where they ended up apparently FORGETTING about us. I recall there being a triage sign with bladder leaks as top priority and we had waited a minimum of 3 hours. He had urinated all over the floor, the room reeked of ammonia. My fault for giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming there was a reason being seen took so long. I can’t believe no one checked on us, it took me walking out to the lobby a second time before a tech recognized me and said someone will check him in just a moment. Less than 5 minutes later a tech came in, took him back for scans and moved my mom and I to a clean room. He had an enlarged prostate which they diagnosed as a kidney stone causing the blockage, I can’t personally speak on if they’re original diagnosis was reasonable to assume. Anyway they drained his bladder with a catheter and sent us on our way by 6am. We had to put him down 6 days later since the prostate infection caused a serious uti, which led to kidney failure. I’m not sure how much he could’ve recovered if he was assessed differently during this visit so my review is less about that and more about how we were literally forgotten about… it’s worth noting they weren’t short staffed or necessarily busy, I only saw a few other patients. Cant think of other reason my boy had to lay in pain for so long. I wish I wrote this review sooner

I would have given the place 5 stars but docked one for the wait after the check-in and after the preliminary workup. The front desk staff were fine but the vet assistant was really nice! I wish I got her name. We were being seen for an oncology consult with Dr. Michael Lucroy and he is the sweetest/kindest pet provider. He is the ONLY vet my dog has actually taken a liken to with wanting pets/attention; otherwise, she is very anxious and always panting and ready to leave. I admire his empathy and compassion because I know this specialty is hard for anyone, pets and humans alike. But he was very honest with our dog's prognosis, cost of treatment, and management options given her geriatric age. Even with the hard conversation, he was very patient and showed every ounce of kindness/respect. Although we decided to opt for palliative care, I would trust him again for any of my future pets.

This is never a place anyone wants to go willingly. Getting your pet the best care in an emergency situation is expensive. That said, during our dog’s ongoing lymphoma journey, they’ve been understanding, accommodating, and thoughtful. I hope to never have to use them again after this, but would do so in a heartbeat if the need arises. My dog was diagnosed with lymphoma near the end of July. My vet recommended a different oncology hospital that couldn’t see us until August 5th. She was rapidly going downhill. CTVSEH was able to get us seen in a couple of days. Dr. Lucroy and Alexxus were able to evaluate the testing we brought with us from the other hospital, assess her, and come up with a treatment plan. Since our girl is 13, it hasn’t always gone smoothly, but they’ve gone above and beyond to reassess and adjust the care plan. When she hasn’t felt well due to low white blood cells, they’ve called to check up on her. I really feel like they care about her. We’ve also had some experience with the emergency side of the hospital. They were able to get our girl hydrated and started on antibiotics until oncology could see her in the morning. We learned there that apparently she’s a bit known at the hospital for roaming around and charming staff out of their lunches. They made sure she was extra comfortable for her overnight stay.

In memory of our beloved boy, Casper. We came to this ER after my vet referred us. However, my regular vet didn’t bother examining our cat first, he just said “you can come in, but we’ll probably refer you to an ER anyway” with no explanation as to why. So we walked in blind to the possibility of not coming home with our cat that day, when we came to this ER. We just thought he was constipated. I’m still a bit emotional from everything that happened, but I truly feel blessed that we ended up at this ER for Casper’s end of life rather than his regular care provider. We were taken care of immediately. The staff were very warm and welcoming. The lobby was clean, roomy, and offered a couple vending machines, coffee, and water which was a nice touch. Dr. Lindsey took care of our Bubba and broke the news to us as thoroughly and gently as possible. She kept it honest and real and gave us her professional opinions and answered any questions we had. Casper had either cancer or heart disease and he wasn’t going to have the quality of life we would want for him. So we chose to end his pain that afternoon. They had us in a comfort room and allowed us as much time as we needed with our boy. I had to call my daughter to come up there because again, we were not expecting this. Each person was so kind and caring and they seemed to really love Casper too. I honestly don’t know how y’all do it!! We got to hold our fur baby and be with him until we were ready to let go. It was the most heart wrenching and beautiful experience I’ve ever had with a pet’s end of life. So thank you. Thank you for having the heart and knowledge, great staff and support, and just the decency that we were lacking from the previous vet experience. My family and I can’t thank you enough. I will be sure to recommend to anyone who needs a specialist or ER for their furry family member. Yes, it’s costly. But you can’t put a price on this kind of love.
