(from Google)I had been a client of Highsmith Animal Hospital for years, now Ocean Rose Veterinary Hospital. All the reviews prior to this one were for highsmith animal hospital, and this is clearly an example of buying a well known business and using their good reputation. Since the ownership change I have seen a drastic downturn in the level of care for my animals and their business principles. This is not reflection on the vets and front desk people because many are the same, but there was an obvious change in how they have been told to treat clients. It’s a much more penny pinching legalistic way of care rather than how it ran under highsmith which was a more family owned, caring, way of running the business. Examples include difficulty in prescribing my dogs their food and medications, no longer willing to send prescriptions in to chewy (because they want to use an online pharmacy they struck a deal with). I can just tell that it’s no longer a people/pets first business but instead a profit first business. I am moving all 3 of my animals to a different vet.
The staff is very friendly and takes good care of my Cookie(dog). Cookie sleeping off her anxiety meds from her visit.
After 10 years with Highsmith I have decided to leave and take my 2 dogs to another veterinary! My 10 year old golden was scheduled to have a mass removed and I was in the office for bloodwork on Thursday. I had mentioned that I would like to meet the vet that was going to do the procedure when I was there to have the bloodwork done. Jess, RVT said that was no problem and they would accommodate my request at the time of the visit! Since Highsmith had changed ownership and Dr Crawford the new owner was going to be doing the procedure I wanted to meet her and go over the costly estimate prior to the surgery! It’s not a hard ask, right? Upon the visit I didn’t get to speak with Dr Crawford and Jess didn’t recall our conversation. I left upset and disappointed with the way the visit turned out! I was a loyal customer and wanted to be treated like one!! You need to do better. Thank you to Joey at the front desk for printing out 10 years of my records and your kinds words when I left
The appointment with Dr. Crawford went fairly smooth. The office was also accommodating. I was a little dissatisfied with the fact that I had only been provided one month of routine medications (i.e. flea/tick and heartworm) due to my dog being uncooperative. I suppose I will be back in one month. EDIT: After calling in to confirm my appointment, I was told that my dog would not be able to be evaluated by a vet for a minor injury to his front right leg and would require ANOTHER appointment for evaluation and medications (which is not unreasonable). I do find it unreasonable that you wouldn't just reschedule the appointment potentially and/or discuss other options. EDIT v2*: I was unable to make the appointment today due to unforseen circumstances. The office was accommodating once again, and waived the fee as a courtesy. I have updated the review to three stars due to their willingness to work with me. I appreciate the understanding.
Disappointed by lack of professionalism and communication I had a very uncomfortable experience here. When I arrived, Kim, the receptionist, didn’t greet or acknowledge my pet or I until about 10minutes after the appointment time which gave an unwelcoming tone right away. The front desk felt disorganized, and communication throughout the appointment was poor. During the visit, vet Crawford administered my dog’s vaccine carelessly — my dog blew most of the medicine out of his nose, and she brushed it off. Her manner was rushed and impersonal, and I left feeling uncertain about the level of care provided. At checkout, I had to ask for a receipt, which felt unprofessional. Then, as I was still in the parking lot, a staff member knocked on my car hood instead of my window, which startled me. Confused as why she didn’t approach my window. I emailed the clinic before posting this review to give them a chance to address it, but the manager’s (Morgan) response was dismissive and lacked accountability. Unfortunately, my pet and I won’t be returning.
