(from Google)This joint is awesome!! Service was really fast and friendly, the food was dynamite, and the atmosphere was as good as it gets! Do yourself a favor and eat here ASAP! Also very Celiac's froendly, my wife at pork nachos and was able to thoroughly enjoy them!
I forgot to take a picture before but you can see the after! It just looked too good I couldn’t help myself from diving in! Proper southern soul food, had the ribs and chicken combo and it was delicious. The pitchers of beer are very reasonably priced also! Service was unbelievably quick! I was in and sitting down and hammering ribs into me in about 10 minutes! Walk ins only, but really really good. Two thumbs up 👍 👍
I was highly reccomend to try Charle Vergos’ one of the oldest and traditional BBQ places in Memphis. Service was excellent, friendly and professional, talked about the history of the business and showed me the smoke pits. I ordered the Ribs and Brisket plate which is 2 of their most popular dishes. It was a generous serving for $27USD and the meat and sides were nice. Not the best BBQ I’ve had but still better than most. Meat was sitting in vinegar that gave the flavour a zing I didn’t love and the ribs weren’t as tender as I’d hoped, it didn’t fall off the bone as it should. All in all it was a beautiful meal and I’d return again, but if I’m being honest a couple of things slightly missed the mark for me.
This place had unbelievable bbq sauce and seasoning! Being from California, all I've ever had is store bought Memphis style bbq sauce and seasoning; but this place was magnificent. Some of the best bbq I've ever had! The server recommended the bbq ribs with dry rub; and he said to try without bbq sauce since the seasoning was good enough without the sauce. He did not lie, the dry rub was out of this world. I regret not buying the seasoning they had in the front of the restaurant.
This family-run hole-in-the-wall is an absolute gem. The whole place is filled with mouthwatering smells, and the dining area has historic speakeasy vibes. The ribs I ordered were amazing—smoky, delicious, generous portion. But above all, the hospitality was incredibly warm and genuine. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town.
