Calderwood Butte Preserve is one of my favorite “quick but rewarding” hikes in Peoria. The trails are well-marked with clear junction signage (I appreciated seeing options like the Panoramic Loop and Cliff Shadows), and even though the mileage is short, you still get a solid climb with classic Sonoran Desert scenery—saguaro stands, rocky switchbacks, and wide open sky. The payoff is the view. Once you gain a little elevation, you get an incredible overlook of the surrounding neighborhoods and Loop 303, and it’s a great spot for photos and a breath of quiet. The terrain is rocky in spots, so good shoes help, but it’s very doable if you take your time and pace the uphill. Tips: Go early or later in the day (little shade), bring water, and watch your footing on loose rock. If you’re looking for a scenic, local hike that feels like a mini-adventure without needing all day, this trail delivers.

The trail is easy and perfect for all ages, making it a great family-friendly spot 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦. The hike isn’t too long or difficult, but it rewards you with beautiful scenic views 🌄 and a peaceful natural atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a relaxing walk, let the kids explore safely, and still feel close to nature. Definitely a go-to spot for anyone looking for a simple yet refreshing outdoor escape in Peoria! 🌳✨

This is a decent hike if you are looking for a 1 to 2 hr outing. Great view from the top. Loose rock and a bit of climb. I recommend good hiking footwear!

Perfect morning hike for west valley locals. Great views, free parking and easy hiking; easy access to get to. The main trailhead is off 99th ave, but there is another “unimproved” trailhead off 107th & Jomax. That side has an optional short loop for quick easy runs to stretch your legs.
