(from Google)Scryer Rum was one of the highlights of our trip to Puerto Rico. The location is fantastic, the atmosphere is amazing, and the rooftop provided the perfect setting to relax and enjoy some truly exceptional drinks. A special thank you to Joha, who made our experience unforgettable. She took the time to explain the different rums and the distilling process in a way that made us appreciate just how unique they are. As someone who enjoys whiskey, I was pleasantly surprised by the complexity and smoothness of the rum—it almost drinks like a fine whiskey. Joha’s knowledge, enthusiasm, and genuine hospitality made the experience that much more enjoyable. The cocktails were a little pricey, but every single one was crafted to perfection and absolutely worth it. You can tell that a lot of care and attention goes into every drink and every detail. Between the outstanding service, incredible rum, beautiful rooftop, and overall vibe, Scryer Rum easily became one of our favorite spots in Old San Juan. If you’re visiting Puerto Rico, this place is a must. We will definitely be back!
The bar we wanted to go to did not have any seats available, and so the bartender actually recommended this place! And she told us to get the paper plane. Which was interesting, because it was exactly the type of drink I would have ordered anyway. Perfectly balanced! We sat at the bar, because we like to sit at the bar. We like the vibes; we like watching the mixologists make drinks; we like seeing what other people order, and we always just prefer sitting at a bar if there’s a true craft cocktail happening in front of us. And there was. These folks knew what they were doing. We have a lot of craft cocktail bars in my hometown, and so we are no stranger to the smoking glass and all of the special things that they do to the cocktails, but still, even with the wonderful ingredients and all of the tools, it comes down to the skill of the bartender. And our bartender was wonderful. As mentioned, the paper plane was the standout. The dark and stormy was similar to dark and stormys we have everywhere. I love a good Sazerac, so I ordered their version of it, which they called the scryerac. I asked him to put a little bit more than a whisper of absinthe in it, because I really love that anisette flavor. It was good. But the real star was the paper planes. They had some sort of private party happening that started at eight, but our bartender was very nice and said we could stay and finish our drinks. Then we met one of the hosts of the party, and he was in no hurry to kick us out. He is a tech guy Guy, and my partner is a tech guy. So they had a lot to talk about. And so we stayed and enjoyed ourselves. We saw them turning away a lot of people at the door, due to the aforementioned private party. The lighting was perfect!
Not only were the cocktails amazing, but talking to the bartender about the history made this a wonderful experience. They are very welcoming and localized to the point where people buy their own bottles and keep them on the shelf for when they return. Truly unique and amazing. Highly recommend!!
Delicious drinks and a great vibe. Ivan was great! Full of information not only on drinks but Puerto Rican history. We loved talking to him about not just the area but other places in Puerto Rico to visit. We will stop back before we leave on this trip!
