(from Google)The map and signage was confusing and I started having a panic attack because I couldn't figure out how to navigate it. I figured out later that the QR code navigation is way better. If it wasn't for some people out there hiking I might still be there. When I finally found one of the lakes it wasn't what I expected but still a beautiful, peaceful view. None of the water fountains worked, and the one I dared try to tamper with had brown water come out. Apparently, there's varied trail levels but I couldn't tell one from the other. Overall, it was a decent walk.
Great trail! It can be a little confusing since there are numerous marked trails but they will all eventually bring you back to one of the parking lots. Very dog friendly. I didn’t see any public restrooms but could’ve just missed them if they do exist.
We did the First Day hike at Umstead in Sal’s Branch Trail. We usually mountain bike in the park, so this is the first time we hiked this trail. As others reviewed, the roots are prolific! After the hike, we drove a short distance to the Sycamore trail entrance to check out the log art. The path is multi-use, so beware of cyclists and horses.
A nearly 3mile moderate hiking trail. This was a first for me and I was happy I wore proper shoes and wasn't in a rush so I could take my time. The walking path was mostly tree roots and covered in pine needles. It was a bit slippery, but beautiful.
A calming, massively shaded, trail with tall trees, and lots of fauna. The trail is easy, we saw very small kids walking, eagerly looking for mushrooms (there were many types). Traffic on the trail on a Saturday was low - but almost every single person we passed and said hello. The trail ends at a lovely lake, calling all instagrammers. Along the way there are small bridges and a few streams making for great pictures again. In the hot and humid Raleigh weather, this trail provides a respite and a gentle way to get some exercise.
