(from Google)"We had a fantastic time exploring the Theodore Roosevelt Area! If you’re looking for a perfect blend of history, nature, and exercise, this is it. What we loved: • Variety of Trails: There are several different trails (like the Willie Browne and Spanish Pond trails) that keep the hike interesting. You can stick to the flat marsh views or head into the wooded areas. • Dog Friendly: Our pup had the best time! The trails are well-maintained and perfect for four-legged hikers (just remember the 6-foot leash rule!). • The Scenery: The views of the salt marsh from the observation platform are stunning. We also loved seeing the historic Browne Cemetery and reading about the Spanish Pond history. • Just Enough Challenge: There are some surprising 'high' elevations for Florida that give you a great workout without being overwhelming. • Family & Kid Friendly: We saw plenty of families out enjoying the day. It’s a great spot to get the kids off their screens and into the woods to spot some wildlife. Highly recommend this preserve for anyone in the Jacksonville area looking for a peaceful yet engaging outdoor adventure. We will definitely be back!"
Beautiful three trail system that interconnect. I paced myself and completed both the Willie Browne and the Timucuan trails in an hour an a half, with ample time to stop and listen for birds, have a snack, and take photos. The northwestern portion of the Timucuan trail has a sharp change in elevation with several root systems and few resting benches. Those with mobility issues or hypermobility beware. The Willie Browne trail is beginner friendly and I witnessed several pup strollers being handled easily. There are no restrooms within the trail system, and very little portions of the trail to stray from so plan ahead.
One of my favorite trails in Jacksonville! Some beautiful things out there ✨️
Beautiful hiking are with several trail choices. There are two different parking areas that can access the trail system. Very peaceful. Dog friendly.
This trail system has a small covered space attached to a separate his and hers bathroom and there is a picnic table on a paved area off to the side. This trail system is an out and back and is the blue trail meeting with the Spanish Pond loop marked as red. It is 1.7 miles from the Roosevelt parking lot to the Spanish Pond Trailhead using the shortest route. Where the red and blue meet is the black scenic trail which is a loop taking you down to a peninsula with a raised viewing platform. Some gorgeous views along the way with a surprising amount of elevation for florida. There are some rooty areas but overall its not bad at all. The trails are very well marked and there are several sign maps along the way and the trail plan makes sense. I walked from one entrance to the other and on the way back went down the scenic trail to the lookout platform and missed a small section of the black trail but this was 4.1 miles and took 1 hours 2 minutes which included a few stops for photos.
